NH - DC politics? Is Concord crazy??
Having some interest in both of these areas, I've been a bit concerned about something that's been in the Washington Post the last few days. Ok, mildly annoyed? Concerned that there's loonies running the Legislature?
Are any of you folks aware that the Legislature is trying to rebuke your Senators working in DC?? Isn't it a bit irrelevent to Concord?
In case no one has a clue what I'm talking about, here's the back story: <http://www.wtopnews.com/?nid=596&sid=1321133> <http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/04/AR2008010403686.html?nav=hcmodule>
For as long as I can remember (and I've been here 25 years), DC has been whining about not having any representatives in Congress (hey, they're not a STATE. only STATES get reps and they do have a very loud 'observer'), so they have this annoying slogan on their license plates reading 'taxation without representation'. So Cindy Rosenwald sees this and gets all misty-eyed and supports their push for getting a rep on the floor, in spite of not being a state. And both Sununu and Gregg voted against it - well, it's against the constitution for a city (not a state) to have reps - actually I think they filibustered.
And now the state legislature up there is trying to rebuke them for voting against it??? what the heck?? And mayor Fenty (of DC, of course) is going up to testify this Wednesday?? Testify what? that your reps upheld the constitution? Has Concord gone loony?? since when does the state legislature have anything to do with congressional senators? I'm awfully confused. I would have thought NH had enough politics to mess with right now than to get involved in this idiocy.

This is the same legislature where YOUR elected reps:
--Proposed an income tax
--Banned smoking in PRIVATE establishments
--Banned your RIGHT to be notified if your minor daughter is getting an abortion
--Proposed making NH a "sanctuary state"
--Increased spending by 17 percent
--Increased tolls despite over 60 percent of gas tax money going to spending on social programs, NOT roads
And you act surprised by this?
Throw 'da bums OUT!

Yes Concord is loony. You see many residents in our state were upset about Iraq. That is fine they have their opinion and I am not here to debate that. However, they voted without thinking and that scares me. You see they voted out local reps because of Iraq. What exactly does a local rep from NH have to do with Iraq? Nothing. Because of this we got everything that OCCASparky mentioned plus Civil Unions. They never ran on the fact they were going to institute Civil Unions and despite the majority of the people being against them, Govenor photop Moe signed it in secretly and sneakily without much fanfare because he knew it was not what the majority wanted.
I hope people think more this time or stay home.

^^ NONO don't stay home. Vote th' bums out!
People expressed their outrage at Mr. Clueless GWB (Great Warrior Boy) and the only people they had to take it out on was their state and national reps. The house was cleaned, so to speak.
If NH has been so polluted by Massthink/Massmigration that in 2008 they vote the socialists and neo-comms back in, then NH is LOST.
Just another reason for secure borders. And I mean the NH-MA border.
Seal it.

Yep. Seal it.
As for NH being lost, that happened when they elected Shaheen as gov. If only there were another Meldrim Thompson on the scene. OOps, forgot. He wouldn't get elected now. Too many liberals have taken over the state. He made way too much sense.

Yes it has been pretty much down hill since Jeannie was elected
I still remember the first time she won we had just moved here. I was berated for not liking her or voting for her. People actually said to me-but you are a woman why would you not vote for her People really vote in some messed up ways.
Sorry but gender and race should not even be an issue as to whom you do or do not vote for. That is really backwards thinking IMHO.

Wow people in new hampshire should travel a bit more this could have been one of the greatest states in country, Instead they we lost the great planners of the future when I was a kid. Now I see a state chopped up killing off many species of wildlife and habitat for the rest of New Hampshires wildlife. Actually when you have a supposed tourist state you would have thought that keeping it that way would have been a priority. It would have been so easy it's stupid instead they said well if we just build here one time. Thats where the end came that very day well we will build here just once and kill the wetlands and habitats. They sold there souls and sold out New Hampshire, I personally would have
liked to see New Hampshire more like Vermont. It is to late for little New Hampshire with it's massamania money coming in and chopped the state up.We could have developed this state and still made it maginficant just by saying no to this area and that area but our so called eliteist or so called leaders have taken my precious state and ruined it and ruined it for my children and ruined it for the wildlife. I myself went back to school got my GED then I went to college at 41 for two years and I think that I could have done a better job than these so called leaders of this state has done in fact and in truth if they only stuck to core values we could have made this state magnificant, Instead sellouts poor planners and poor leaders have left us with New Hampshire and all it's defects.

The latest statistics show that growth rates in NH are way down. Coos County and Grafton County are quite rural and have not seen very much population growth over time. I have seen a lot of wildlife in these areas.

uh, I'm sorry, but I'm have a whole lot of trouble following what you're trying to say - other than a general sense of unhappiness that the politicians have ruined the state?
Now why would I want NH to be like VT? Vermont is beautiful, but there's a whole lot of politics in VT that I do not agree with and don't want in NH. Do you belong to the Society for the Protection of NH State Forests (SPNHSF)? gee, I see an awful lot of signs along the road marking wild areas that are under protections, and every quarter in their magazine they talk about more conservation land and easements.
So if you're not happy with how the legislature is handling things, why don't you run for office? NH has one of the largest popular governments in the country. I swear there's a rep for every couple towns, I'm sure you could run for a term or so. Maybe you could do some good if you think everything is so bad?
