I lived there from September to just before Christmas of 2006 while I was waiting for my house in CA to sell so I could buy my new place.

Hampton Beach is a seasonal town, by which I mean very few places stay open past the Seafood Festival the weekend after Labor Day. North of the Ashworth isn't too bad, but really all that was open last winter was LaBec Rouge, the L Street Cafe, and Ocean Wok, all towards the bridge. If you wanted to do anything, you were looking at having to go into Hampton or Portsmouth.

My reactions here is "WHOE WAIT A MINUTE!",,, we moved here from Florida 3 months ago and were able to get a 1 brdm condo (rent) easily for 700. per month right on the ocean with a view (okay the ocean is 500 feet out front).
Yes we rented the end of the summer season but NO we have NOT seen any such "white trash" as mentioned.
I am sure everywhere has it but thus far not here, we are right beside the Ashworth Hotel and luckily our condo has a HOA which keeps things here in order as to who lives or rents from owners.
Hampton Beach (the attractions) were open up until 2 weekends ago and even then it was very pleasant up this end (away from the clubs south of here on the strip).
The rents summers are NOT just weekly , we found a good mix of yearly and weekly when we arrived, though the rents then were a bit higher yes.
Fall is a good shot at getting a year round rental at a lower price and we made sure we were "locked in" so our rent wouldnt go up come tourist season.
Being from Florida AND L.A. myself, life here is a BREEZE and we have seen no real crime or drug problems as you would in the bigger cities.
My advice is shop around and talk to year round residents if your in the area.
The best areas of Hampton Beach start at the Ashworth hotel and north as far as quietness.
Much luck to you! ..Deb
