MamaBee, Can you at least vacation there?
My hubby is from NH & we vacation there all the time. I've always enjoyed it & thought it was a wonderful place. I tend to romanticize a lot in my posts, but I'm a very practical realist honestly. Every once in awhile my hubby would suggest the possibility of living in NH. I'd scrunch my face up & I'd think it's been a long time since he lived in the snow. It's a lot of work...he didn't own a home when he lived there. Will I be able to park my car in the garage...like I've wanted to do my whole life, but there's never been room for my car. Ok, I can go on & on. But there were a lot of reasons why I wanted to live there too. I guess my point is I changed my mind. We always thought about living somewhere other than Cali. I always thought NH was a nice place to visit, but I never thought I'd want to live there. Well, never say never.
btw, I got a chuckle out of "youse" My grandfather was from NJ. He never lost his accent or phrases. I wish I knew how to write his accent..."pahk the cah" The best is the way he said coffee & donuts...well it wasn't donuts, something like crellas. Anyway thanks for the memories!
I appreciate your honesty Tara. I enjoyed your pix & your videos. I'm sorry about the ordeal you've had to go through with your apartment & your husband's working hours. I think it's great that you gave it a shot. You always can say, I did it! In the long run it's what makes us stronger.
rmcewan, I've enjoyed your input as well. You have a comparison of LA to NH. I admire your courage to pack up and move your family across the country. And I like that you are happy with your move.
s2bmanchy, I don't think people from Mass are parasitic aliens. I've met some wonderful people from Mass that live out in Cali. I've made a friend here on CD with someone that's lived in Mass their whole life...and also two others that moved there from Cali. I'm looking forward to living closer to people from Mass & visiting them in person someday.
DareToDream, I always enjoy reading your posts! And I'm so happy that you enjoy living in Littleton.
Suzet, I hope you are able to visit NH soon.
I'm sure when I live in NH I'll find things that annoy me, and also things that I will enjoy immensely. I try not to complain, but there are so many annoying things about where I live now, yet I'm still living through it & making do ~ such is life.

Sounds like my experience in London. From age 11 to 18 I walked half a mile to the bus stop. Used my free pass to take a bus 3 miles to Enfield Town, but then I had to walk another mile to the school. A 2nd bus could have taken me there, but my pass was only good for ONE bus route. Not too bad, but before I left for school, I had already walked a 2 mile paper route. Now, London doesn't have cold winters like here, but let me tell you - I'll take 5 months of frozen water occasionally falling from the sky over 3 months of nearly frozen water CONSTANTLY coming down either side of 3 months of normal rain and 3 months of light drizzle.

Hi Mama
I'm sorry that NH isn't going to happen for you after all, I think you'd have made a great New Hampshire-ite
Maybe you'll be able to make it up for vacations, etc. I read your later post on why he doesn't want to move here, and though it's a bummer, everyone needs to be on board with a relocation decision...

Take care of yourselves in the LIVE FREE OR DIE state.

Boo, could it have been "crulla" (crullers?) It's the longer slightly twisted donut that we stick into coffee sometimes

Wow, I dont even know where to start...
Tara, I am so sorry that NH didnt turn out to be all that you thought and wanted it to be. I think when people think of NE, there is this certain romance and charm that goes right along with it. I know you have had your share of problems while living there . I wish it would of worked out for you. I remember how excited you were about everything, the pumpkin festival, the first snow, the haunted cemetary..lol. I so enjoyed your posts, pics and videos. You actually got me wanting to get out there sooner. I can understand how when things dont go as planned, you start to loose the happiness and excitement of being in a new place. Like being at home alone on Christmas, I would be very sad too about that. Your husband works all the time, and you are alone a lot of the time. That cant be fun, in any state. And then no family close by. I think I would get home sick too. I have read everything and really thought about all you have said to me. I appreciate all your honesty and your looking out for us, so we dont make the same mistakes. I think that everyone has a different journey to fulfill. The experiences you have had are yours. What happens to my family and I will be ours.
I am sure the cold will take some getting used to. As I have said before, I lived in Iceland and just loved it, the snow, the clouds, the tundra, even the 3 months of total darkness...
I havent been to NH, only NY, Chicago, Mass, Virginia, and a whole bunch of states over on the western side of our country . Oh and hubby has been to Conn 4 times. He got stuck in a snow storm and had to stay a few days extra. This was like 8 years ago. That is when we started talking about moving back east actually. But as life does, it took us in different directions that didnt include moving back east. So this looks like the year it might happen for us.
I totally agree with what rmcewan said.... "sunshine and money were shackling me to a shallow existence". My husband and I know exactly what he means. You can get so wrapped up into that life style out here and not even know you are like the people that you cant stand. There is no real heart or soul to the people out here(except for Boo ) Lol. We wanted something more from life than what we have out here. We are outdorsy(sp?) type people, especially the hubby. We want a better quality of life. NH seems to fit the bill of what all we are looking for. And look how happy rmcewan and his family are . He lived very close to me, so we know what we were exposed to, as far as shopping, entertainment, just plain enviornment, so I do read all his posts, and pay attention to how he and his family are adjusting to life in NH.
Since you are younger than a lot of us, maybe NH is too confining or not stimulating enough for you. I can totally understand that. And the fact that you were by yourself a lot of the time, well that would make me want to go home too, and be with family. It just wasnt what you wanted. But you guys were brave enough to make that huge move. It doesnt work for everyone. But you should be proud that you took a chance and tried something.
Val, when we get out there for our visit, I would very much like to meet up with you and discuss what it is my family is looking for . I hear what you are saying about rent first. Sorry for rambling, I am pretty tired tonight, and when I get tired I ramble .....

Yep, that's it. He called all donuts even the regular ones that. When he said it, kinda sounded like he added "R" to the end...so probably more like crull-ahrs. He left "R" out of other words, so I guess he had to find a place to put them, lol. Then again I've heard pizza in NH pronounced pizzer by some.
Thanks Suzet I also enjoyed your rambling...it was a very nice post!

Well I am going to have to ramble more often...haha . Thanks guys. I am looking forward to what kind of experience my family and I are going to have. My hubby thinks he will freeze out in Keene. He keeps saying bald men dont do well in the cold !! Haha. I tell him that is what LLBean or Lands End is for. I will get him an extra warm hat for his head. I keep telling him all the positive things, like the hiking, fishing, walking trails, canoeing (sp?), horseback riding, biking, and then the winter sports too. He is big on mountain biking. God, I will have to turn in to some kind of Olympian when we move!! I will have to be doing all kinds of activities . I think the cold is the main thing he is concerned about. But you know how us women can "work" our men , so all hope for us moving isnt lost yet!! Lol.

I enjoyed your ramble as well Suzet. Sometimes when we're tired is when we let our guard down, and our real selves come out
