Hello, can I get comments on a senior single woman who lived for 11 years in NH moving back after retiring to Florida. I miss the seasons and New England and am tired of living in air conditioning and sweating to death 7 months of the year.
I would love to live on a lake but think a senior community might be better. I did love my home that was set back in a wooded area near Manchester. That's really the kind of place I would like to have but I would have to hire someone else to do all the outside work and that doesn't seem reasonable now.
Anyway, my concern is that I would have to find other seniors to mingle with and a senior program so I could meet people. Does anyone know of any "meet up" activities for seniors? It's very convenient to live in Florida because you live in a gated community with a clubhouse and a full-time activities director. My concern about moving back to NH (although I really want to) is ending up isolated because none of the towns seem to do much for seniors and Manchester restricts its senior center to residents only.
Lulu

Hi, Skinut74, I googled always an adventure and I got a fishing charter company in California and a travel company in Canada. Do you know what the name of the web site actually is? Thanks.

Manchester has a housing authority.
Apply there.

Each county has a county home. You could apply there.

But really, your best bet is exactly where you are.

Yikes!! I'm not ready for a county home. I'm an active adult looking for ways to find a group to socialize with and a nice home to live in. But thanks for the info.

Well, I don't have any personal experience but there do seem to be quite a few 55+ communities in Southern NH (at least). My condo community in Nashua (which is not 55+) has many active people of all ages, many of whom meet to walk and socialize. There is even an organized book club that meets at the club house, there may may be other activities, but I'm still new here. If you checkout the various "meetups" in the areas you're looking, I'll bet that you could find plenty of senior activities that way. For example: Manchester Meetup, Nashua Meetup. They seem to have meetup groups for just about everything.

See this link for some discussion of senior related activity in the New London area http://www.city-data.com/forum/36448780-post16.html. (3rd paragraph)

Thanks for the replies. I just read the New London link and it was very interesting. I'm going to keep looking for meetup groups and I know Concord has a senior center. I do want to be in a 55 and over community but it seems like in NH those are much more expensive than ordinary homes and smaller, too. I like the idea of being near the lakes (New London) as I love to swim (main reason I moved to Florida). It may be worth looking at a small home because I just don't want another big home to take care of. I'd rather be out having fun.
