Question Pillsbury Lake community in Webster?

Can anyone tell me about the Pillsbury Lake community in Webster? I'm just looking for general info about living there, or in a similar type of neighborhood.

I see that there are a number of those types of communities around the state, with shared beach rights and recreation facilities, etc. What are these associations like? Are they overly restrictive in what you can and cannot do with your house, or is the association mainly just a mechanism for sharing the costs of maintaining the facilities?

Here in Arizona some of the HOA's can be downright draconian. For example, if I lived in one of these lake communities, could I park a boat in my driveway? Such deviant behavior is not allowed in some Phoenix-area HOA's.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Lake Community?? Pillsbury Lake is man made and not much more than a puddle. Last year the dam washed out with the flooding and the "lake" disappeared for many months while repairs were done. The Pillsbury Lake association is expensive and not the easiest people to deal with.

Webster is a great town to live in. Taxes aren't as high as some nearby towns. Quaint and mostly rural, good people. I just couldn't recommend Pillsbury Lake. IMHO that is

I totally agree bignhfamily. I have a friend who lives there but not directly on the lake. She has lived there a long long time. She really does not like living there anymore and was so stressed during the floods and all the votes and meetings on what to do about the flooding. She does not have any kind words for the people on the "association" and this is a person who seldom has a bad word to say about anyone.

Wow, I didn't know it was a man-made lake. Thanks to both of you for the information.

JMX, I'm not sure what this particular association is like (although bignhfamily and nicolem have it covered ) but it's really important that you check out very thoroughly all of the subdivision association indentures, and be sure to get the most recent!! And if you were to consider buying a home that has any type of association, you would want written right into the purchase and sale some type of language that would allow you X amount of days AFTER receiving the protective covenants, etc to review and approve. Each one is very different, but in general I find indentures to be somewhat less restrictive than what I saw in the St. Louis area. However, buyer beware, because many people in NH really chafe under rules like this !!!

Thank you, Valerie. That's an important tip about having the option to review and agree to the protective covenants.

I'd prefer a house that was not part of any HOA, but after living in the desert for so long, I thought living near a lake would be nice. But a man-made lake doesn't interest me, so this particular community is off my list anyway.

Thanks again for your input.
