We've mentioned The Friendly Toast a bunch of times, just not in this thread... Actually I wouldn't ever think to refer to it as a greasy spoon... the atmosphere is sort of crunchy but last time I was there I noticed a definite improvement in waitstaff... now they actually come back to the table, sometimes sit down at the table to chat for a few... Can't say I've ever seen a sheriff in there, eating or otherwise well maybe at some of the 3 am breakfasts...

Red Arrow
I love the Red Arrow Diner. It's famous, and it's open 24 hours/day.

Was wondering about Berlin to open a diner as a test site? What do you all think?

Well the economy is not great. They are building the prison. Maybe daniellefort would have some insight as she is from the area?

Jerry's Variey Store Sidetrack cafe at the Amtrck station in Exeter on Lincoln St is a good down-home breakfast place. Generally you can order A-la-carte, without being sacked with the lumberjack special, "10 pancakes, 4 eggs, toast juice, homeiesfora mere 8 bucks. The staff has been there since Jesus was in kindergarten.

The Four Aces in West Lebanon!
Yes, it looks odd and run down but it's so cool. Bill Bryson (famous travel author) even wrote about it.
It's the REAL place to go in the Upper Valley. Very, very kind staff and good food. (and beat up looking but that's the atmosphere!!)

The Tamarack in Laconia is first rate. Good fresh seafood at a good price.
