I pay less than $1,000 per year for registration, property tax and insurance on 2 cars ('92 Buick Roadmaster Wagon & '96 Subaru Legacy Outback). Both have reached minimum value but still provide reliable transport. I would drive either one across the country and back with only an oil change to start.

PS: I absolutely HATE salted roads. I consider salt to be another "road use tax". If you cannot drive on sanded snow/ice then stay home.

and you live in Londonderry? that can't be right.

my insurance alone runs $1000 for my car and my PU truck. The truck only carries liability.

My property taxes in Derry were $10K per acre. They are only 1/3 that here up north.

True--but what are your sales and income taxes like?

We still have the second-lowest state and local tax burden in the nation, only behind Alaska.

Yes that's true. Though they get you on this it's more than made up for by looking at New Hampshire's place as far as the actual over all tax burden goes. Wasn't meaning my original post as a slam on NH or anything of the sort.
