Or try New Jersey. They have an income tax, sales tax and outrageous property taxes. Their sales tax-among many other hidden taxes- was raised 2 years ago with the promise of significant property tax relief-never happened. Once they get hold of your $$ they always want more never less. Gee NJ has a sales tax and a income tax but their property taxes far blow away any property tax in New Hampshire. More taxes does not equate to more or better services for the working people. More taxes usually equates to more governmental do-nothing jobs and more hand outs/entitlements to those who refuse to get off of their butt and work.


Also-higher school taxes do not always equate with better schools. Yes they do-sometimes. While I agree that in NH some of the best schools are towns with high property taxes, there are also towns with "poor" schools who have high property taxes. Throwing $$ at a failing school will not fix that school unless there are people there-educators, students and parents-who care and want to actually make a difference.

Camden, NJ is continually in the running of the school that receives the most funding per pupil. It is one of the worst schools in the country. It would be a miracle if 50% of the kids graduated. Moorestown NJ a nearby school that spends probably half per pupil than Camden does but is one of the better schools . Throwing tons of $$ at a problem will not fix the problem if you have corruption and people who do not care. You still have the bleeding hearts that think Camden need MORE $$.

Fact is, both those states are run by tax-and-spend pandering liberals. CA spends over 12K a year per student, yet has some of the lowest test scores in the country. Maine isn't much better.

The Old Man might have disappeared naturally long ago. There were anchors and bolts all over it. Some have a theory that the bolts actually helped the ice to form inside and weakened the rocks even further.


I have a lot of pictures of it. I ski at Cannon a lot, and would stop and snap a photo almost every time. I miss it. The indian head is still there.

Who gets taxed after they die? If you're talking about inheritance tax, that is not your income, that is new income going to the inheritors. They get taxed and then only if it's more than $2M in inheritance. $4M if you are a couple.

I never said that all places choose to spend their money in the appropriate places. I am just simply saying that if you want better schools and amenities, than you need to spend more money. Unless you find a lot of people willing to work for free.

Also not true. Using education as just one example, why is it that parochial private schools turn out a better-educated student than a public school for less than 2/3 the cost per student?

Low administrative overhead is another word for the teachers and administrators working for free. Also indoctrinate does not necessarily equal better educated.

As an example of self imposed taxes I will mention my condo annual meeting. We pay $240 per month. Less than one third of the owners show up or send proxy to the meeting. I always vote in favor because I realize I am getting a real bargain because this fee covers all the annoying stuff involved with owning a house. I get the place painted, roofed, the roads plowed and walks shoveled, and the 30 acre lawn mowed. All for $240 per month. Not a bad deal at all.

Wow 240 a month! In some places that would be rent or a huge chunk of it! New England prices still baffle me.
