10 things I HATE about New Hampshire? (Keene, Lincoln: appointed, transplants, buy)

I an giving up lawn mowing, snow shoveling and outside maintenance. I hate all of these so I am effectivly buying free time do what i want. $240 per month is abour the median around here. These townhouses rent for oveer $1200 per month and are considered low price living. I don't understand this either.

Hence the Clintonite express, even in this state. I'm really ashamed at this mentality, especially here in the Granite state. I thought New Hampshire was better than that.

I think there was a similar thread recently, but nontheless I'll again list my pet peeves:
1. The ridiculous police presence as it relates to such trivial issues as a burnt out tail-light. Exeter? Greenland? Stratham? Hampston? Newmarket? I dare you to drive from one end of town to the other- any seacoast town with even one headlight dimmer than the other in the evening and not see the siren in your rear view mirror. That is the price I suppose for such a low crime rate, but sorry, I don't have alot of patience for police forces on my dime mandating such pratices when certain some bodys I know are dodging bullets nightly on the graveyard shift busting crack dealers, gangsters, and criminaliens with zero English skills in the Langley park district outside DC. You need revenue? Do what he does on his day OT shifts: hang out at the outlets and watch who parks in the fire zones and handicapped spaces all day: the incessantly lazy will come a beckoning every time: problem solved.
2. Love the seasons, including the winter, but 10 below wind chills test my patience.
3. Very slow, particularly along the seacoast in the winter time. Hibernation season from November til June it seems and does anything stay open past 8 pm for god's sakes? I went into Quiznos at Hampton at 6:53 a few Sundays back. Closed at 6. Decided Subway was salvageable down the road. 7:01. Closed at 7 pm. What the $%#@!? It ain't Boston, but we're not exactly Boonesville either. Ioka in Exeter: great little theater with a lounge: good luck catching it on a night when its open or isn't catered only to a private function. Last calls at some taverns around here on SATURDAYS come at 9:45. Even Portsmouth isn't that far better when its not summer. I love New Hampshire all the same and don't want Manhattan any longer, nor do I expect it. But good grief, people are in a coma in these parts this time of year.
3. Alluding to prior posts, the "Maineachusetts" mentality that has swept over this state. Again, we are still ahead of the curve, but it is discouraging to see the granolas ruin this state with their "nice ideas". (and alot of it is within and can not be blamed on former residents of other states)
4. People in this state bitching about the cost of living and property taxes as though it rivals/ exceeds every other place on the face of this country. Get out a little more. It simply isn't true. One reason I moved here is I have more money left in my pocket doing a similar trade, same skills. No promotion, simple lateral movement on the career front at the time.
5. Somersworth...err, okay I won't touch that one any further.

unfortunately, they will stop you for no reason at all. Been there, done that. I argued with the nazi the last time I was stopped and fully expected to be tazered. No reason for stopping, (he claimed I was speeding) but I knew I wasn't. No ticket. Just 45 minutes of pure harassment. I swear the kid was on a power trip.

Just in the spirit of full disclosure, I've actually been treated quite reasonably by the coppers in NH. 2 times recently I got off with just a warning.

As for the tax thing, it might be a close issue at $50 (higher prop tax vs. no income tax vs. other states). But, for any household going north of $75, folks, you just cannot beat NH. I ran some numbers for moving to Texas and NH is still better because of no sales tax. I don't know the prop tax numbers for Fla. but I understand property insurance is beastly costly. And no thanks, Alaska just wouldn't even be in the running for me.

I like to give NH my share of home state s**t, but as long as we can bully even Democrat governors into taking the no tax pledge, it certainly ain't a bad place to draw a paycheck.

1. That the Democrats are turning it into Massachusetts.
2. Social Liberal visitors who praise NH and its beauty, peace, safety, etc., compared to southern NE and then buy a house and immediately try to recreate the bureaucracy and problems they had in their home state.
3. Political signs littered along side state highways.
4. People who don't understand the basic tenets of property law that one's enjoyment of the highest and best use of their property should not adversely affect the highest and best use of other's property.
5. The fact that Walmart is killing local businesses and force-feeding rural America with a bunch of dangerous Chinese junk.
6. Mother's Day to Father's Day.
7. Rain in the middle of Winter.
8. Hard to find a copy of Investor's Business Daily at the gas station.
9. When you forget something important on your shopping list.
10. Having to have a land line because there is no cell phone coverage anywhere close (Can you hear me now? NO I CAN'T!).

Having lived in Chicago and Houston, I can honestly tell you that if the Police are stopping you for small or bogus things...well, they have too much time on their hands. The safety of this State is incredible, but, unfortunately, there is a bad side to being too safe; and, that is the Police have nothing to do, so they stop you for...well...crapola. Talk about yin and yang.
You could have no lights and Houston--being 50 miles across either way--a Policeman wouldn't stop you. With the high crime there and vast city spread, the Police there have too much to do in the way of stopping real crime. This means, your house is broken into and it takes Mr. Policeman 4 hours to come and take a report!
