NH sells booze through state liquor stores. People from MA and ME go to NH to buy at lower prices. The statistic most likely doesn't account for that. It's probably alcohol volume sold in the state divided by population. How dare they leave those drunk out- of- staters out of the equation?!

This from their website (index) (yes, it's a nh.gov website!)

The New Hampshire State Liquor Commission regulates the sale of alcohol in the state of New Hampshire. New Hampshire is one of 18 control states in the nation where the government directly controls the distribution of alcoholic beverages as well as being responsible for the regulation of alcoholic beverages. The Commission is an important source of revenue for the state, contributing over 100 million dollars to the General Fund each year.

If nothing else, it's great to be able to find a state-wide sale on whatever I may want to add to my shelf (weekly_sale)

Maybe it's the State Liquor Stores. Liquor is cheaper here, and is also available right in the grocery store aisle!

do you think that is unusual? I bought liquor in little markets in Maine, and in VT. MA doesn't allow anything.

Add NY state to that list of law happy states that forbid you from doing anything with all their rules and regulations.

Default Not the Drunkest State

Consuming the most amount of booze per capita is NOT the same as being the drunkest state!!!

I think New Hampshire's population are quite able to put away a few drinks and not start dancing on the bar. The drunkest state must be California. Those guys just can't hold their liquor!

"Oooh, no! One beer is enough for me".

"But that was a Bud Light - it's barely alcoholic"

"I know, but it's like 100 calories! I'll get fat!!!"
