I would guess it is a hunting prize and he will take it down before the meat spoils. Given the population changes and increased sensibilities I would think he would hang it in his back yard to avoid annoying the pedestrians at the cost of bothering his neighbors.

Sunnycrest Farms in Londonderry supplies our red raspberry fixation in late summer/fall. We also buy Mutsu cider from Mack's. it makes really good hard cider and, if processed correctly, great apple wine.

Maybe they don't have a suitable tree in the back yard... How long does he (or she) usually let it hang for? I know that deer should age for 5 to 7 days before processing, but the hunters I know will have their bear processed almost immediately.
