I'm a science teacher and looking to move to northern NH, my wife is from that area and wants to go back! Just wondering if any teachers there can tell me anything about teaching in NH. I hear the retirement is not that great, but you can't have everything.
What I would like to know is if you are pretty secure in your job after a few years, I know that is a problem in some states.

Thanks!

Smile Hello Snowmon

I haven't seen that many teachers post on the NH forum. There have been some past threads in regards to teaching though, so if you do a search on the NH forum you can probably research it a bit more.

All the best to you!

Hey there Snowmon,

Here's the wage data for the state of New Hampshire:
Occupational Employment & Wages (http://www.nh.gov/nhes/elmi/oesfiles.htm - broken link)

Just click on the area you want to move to and it'll give you info on all sorts of occupations.

Here's a link i've been checking now and then for teacher jobs in NH. I'm not a teacher looking for a job but a parent looking to see if the ESE position they have posted for my daughter to attend school next year has been filled yet. I believe i saw a job on here for Science in Littleton. You may want to check it out. TeachNorth.org :: Careers :: New Hampshire's North Country Initiative for Teacher Recruitment

Edjobsnh.com --most school districts post available positions here. Also, each SAU posts jobs on their websites. So if you are looking in the North Country, look up Berlin School District, Gorham School District, Colebrook, Bethlehem/Lisbon, White Mountains Regional, Littleton.

Good luck!

Snowmon, There isn't much input as far as teaching goes on here. Little bits here and there, but I will say that you are in a good position as you teach science and it is a critical need area. I have been checking out the links that daniellefort and angelak posted for about 2 years now so that I could get a feel for the areas that seem to have a high turn-over, teaching shortage, etc.. I will be seeking a position in ESE when we do finally take the plunge in the summer of 2010. I think that the schools do the majority of their job postings and interviews in the spring. Another site to check out is the NHDOE.. New Hampshire Department of Education There is a lot of great info. on here. Good luck in your searching!
