roerinaci, I'm sorry to say that you've got a long wait January is when the gardening catalogs come in, and we sift through and decide what we're going to plant this year

If you have a cold frame, you might be able to start some seedlings in late March/early April. I start my sugar snap peas in April, but they like cold. And I keep things covered up at night.

Official plant-out date is Memorial Day weekend, anything before that is subject to a hard frost I wouldn't chance putting tomatoes, etc into the ground until then. And anyway, the ground really isnt' warm at that time either. You might try laying some black weedblock fabric down to help warm the soil.

I've grown successfully in New Hampshire tomatoes, peppers (bells and hot), lots of cukes, zucchini, and peas. Hope this helps!!

Hi to both of you. Can either of you recommend specific favorite gardening catalogs? I'm already panicking about not being able to successfully grow anything, veg or ornamental, because we are surrounded by tall pines and get little sun. Planning on a major overhaul in order to create a garden, but won't be able to live happily without one! For now, i can't even grow indoor plants. A total contrast to my very green house and yard in CA.

Default Garden seed catalogs/sites

Among my favorite gardening catalogs: NE Seeds (seed company grass soybeans grain at neseeds.com)
Seeds of Change (Welcome to the Seeds of Change® Websites - Organic Seeds and Organic Food) and Park Seeds (Park Seed: Seeds and plants for vegetable, flower, annual and perennial gardening.).

For a complete list of gardening catalogs and much more, check out Cyndi's Catalog of Garden Catalogs.

I've got to say that one of my favorite sites on the entire Internet is the GardenWeb forum. If it's got leaves and grows, it's there, and it's sort of like here... real info from real people. It's where I learned about Dahlias, how to grow, store, overwinter, etc... and some of the posts with people's gardens are just amazing... They even have a New England gardening forum
(I'm growing some snow and ice right now...)

ROTFL!! I used to, last year I decided to "plant them" all on top of each other and continue the rock wall that I already have on my property.

They promptly stopped multiplying...
