windchimes... Strafford, NH (Bow Lake). A small town/village that has one school k-8. We have a 1000acre lake, Bow Lake for wonderful fishing, boating, etc.. mountains and a great community with one small gas station, another country store, no signal lights, beautiful views, loons calls at night.. it kind of reminds me when we go to Isle Royal.. because you can even potentially see a moose ( as we had one in our front yard)..

Well Deering is just outside of Concord you are right! I was born in Litchfield and raised in Nashua myself. Litchfield 30 years ago was that quiet country town now its grown to the point I don't recognize it. Heck the whole state is growing a mile a minute. I hope people take into consideration that it will lose its touch if everyone moves there.

Agree that NH is losing it's appeal because too many people are moving there. It is still beautiful but is getting carved up by the mega developers into just another suburbia.

Wow, big thread on Littleton. I was born here! Any questions, I'll answer to the best of my ability! As for the moore dam and flooding a town, that is true in some regards, but the town of Littleton was never part of it as far as I'm aware of. There was a cemetery that was removed to build this dam.

to answere the moore dam question
i have lived on moore dam all my life, and yes there was a town there. It was named pattonsville they also moved the upper waterford cemetary as was previously posted.although there is very little info on the town to be found on the net the historical society should be able to answere youre questions. Also at the dam itself there is supposed to be a monument pointing towards the cemetary that was in this town.they moved the headstones but left the graves if memory serves me correctly.I hope this helps clear things up for everyone.

The growth in New Hampshire is one of the reasons I am planning on retiring to the desert southwest. The seemingly endless winter is another.

kinda' sad what happens with old cemeteries - sometimes they are left abandoned and nobody cares for them at all.
there was a cemetery in Candia village that had to be moved because the river rerouted itself and exposed graves.
I stumbled upon an old family cemetery in the middle of the woods and I've come across a small pox cemetery once.
In Maine, I found an old cemetery on the coast that had not been maintained in more than 1/2 a century. Huge pine trees literally grew out of the graves and most of the 200 year old headstones had tipped or broken. There were depressions in the ground still and the whole place was pretty creepy. I asked about it at the town center and the owners of the land were all deceased.

small correction
upon looking into some of the notes and info i have collected over the years.I found an error on my part. The towns of pattenville and upper waterford were both flooded to make the dam.3 cemetaries were moved including the graves.and pattenville was actually considered part of littleton at the time.i apologize for the mistakes as i was going on pure memory at the time.I did a small amount of research since i posted and found the location of the pattenville cematary is on the north littleton rd.next to reidy wayand is still in use today for people in littleton and well maintaned.

Springfield is your place.
I've lived here for 5 years.
Small town for sure. You go pick your mail up at the post office every day. Very nice people, no crime.
