Drove down a couple days ago; not during rush hour or business hours. I do think it looks nice. I have been on the old version (pre-construction) and during construction so maybe it is just the construction hassle talking, but I do think it's an improvement. I think it keeps Concord feeling smaller and nostalgic which may or may not be a good thing, but it is why I like it here.

Reason: clarify
I will say, I continue to enjoy Concord Main street more then ever with the new upgrade. I think its working and I still say the traffic is no worse then it was before. I hope when they do the second phase this year they bury the power lines as they are an eye sore.
I do have a big gripe with Main street business's however. Why are they ALL closed on Sundays! The only time I really want to go down to main street is on the weekends and they aren't even open 50% of the weekend. Want to enjoy one of the nice coffee shops on a Sunday morning, nope, closed, want to get a burger at barley house on a Sunday, nope closed, want a nice lunch with a beer on the patio at the bar or on the patio at 0's on a Sunday nope. Want to stroll down main street and pop your head in some of the mom and pop shops on a Sunday. good luck....
Its not just locals either, I saw a family of like 10, clearly after a day of skiing up north, looking for a place to grab an early dinner but 90% of the dinning establishments, closed.

Ok ill stop ranting now.
I think the issue is that so much of their business comes from state workers that they can't afford to close on a weekday. While I am sure they lose out on a fair amount of business from not being open Sunday, they'd lose more if they were closed Monday, or another weekday. Yes they could be open 7 days, but that is hard to do when you're a small owner run business.

You must be one of the few that have missed the multiple curb jumpings and near misses.. it isn't better it is a nightmare
One of the few things that I like about the redesign are the improved streetlights (LED pedestals) and some sidewalk improvements. Otherwise, I'll come up with a final opinion once the completion of the project ends when I'm back in the area visiting family.

Well, one could either conclude they're incompetent, or perhaps devoutly religious.
Though the more likely explanation is that, from experience, they've learned there isn't sufficient demand for the cost/benefit of being open in downtown Concord on Sunday to pay off [for them]. Joe King's is open Sundays, but a lot of the more boutique shops /cafes aren't.
But as someone typically visiting over the weekend myself, sure, it's a pain in the butt, and I end up either at the bagel shop or Loudon Road, etc.

Joe King's is great, was there last time. It reminded me of how shoe stores used to be growing up, not too many of them left.

I never said it was better for traffic flow, I just said it was not worse then before. Visually its a drastic improvement and I do think it will help to drive more business into town. I work every day in Concord and live very close by in Bow, whats my point? I spend a lot of time around main street and I think my opinion on the issue holds just as much weight as yous does. Everyone already knows you hate it so your continued bashing of it is nothing more then annoying, you have already made your point.

I would agree with your assessment, but as for there not being historical demand for being open on Sunday, I think that comes from the conception that everyone has of main street being closed on Sunday. If 75% of the stores or more were open, I believe that would draw a lot more people into town. Especially the restaurants. I ate at Vibes on Sunday (finally a joint open on Sunday) and i watched a family of like 10 (clearly out of staters on their way home from skiing) walk in, view the menu, and then change their mind and leave to look for another option. (most likely walked all the way down main street looking for something else) and returned 10 minutes later they were back in Vibes eating.. Will they bother to come back to main street on a Sunday? probably not.

Of course your opinion holds as much weight. your continued opinion does too, kindly offer me the same decorum I offer you. or better yet if you are that annoyed. ignore it.
I usually drive through Concord on I-93 on my way to Rt 106 to Laconia. I'll have to stop in next time I am going by during the week or on Saturday.
Hey, C D - almost time to get the scooter out of the winter lock up. But not today when it is still below freezing.
