Just Google it. Really its a fad that was popular in the early 2000s but has fallen out in popularity. Similar to Goth but generally more whiny. It is a subculture. Not a mainstream thing in any way.

It's more of a look for them, I think. However, we did teach that honesty is always the best policy, no matter whom you're dealing with and I know that this could be misconstrued as "bullying" nowadays. They don't give opinions unless asked generally, tho(except to us; we get all the lies & opinions). They are generally good kids. They have manners, which if you've ever been to the NW, you know is an oddity. However, being in the NW, they are pretty open-minded & accepting of everything. We don't wanna see them lose that. Yes, they have quirky things about them that may/May not affect integration into a different kind of society, but they are teenagers and what teenager isn't confused on what to believe or rebellious against something. After all, testing the waters is how we all became good adults with ethics, morals and values. The extreme life changes are what we want to give our children a chance to adapt to and overcome. That, and learning the different ways people think and act in different regions, will help them to have a better chance to succeed as adults(we believe). That's why we are strongly thinking about moving to the NE. It's the only part of the US (besides Alaska), that they haven't been to.
so they're posers then? nh is not any different with the whole lack of manners thing. and if they are mistaken for actual "emo" people that cut themselves and listen to MCR, people are gonna eat that up thinking they came here in a time machine from 2005. if they really wanna fit in, they either need to dress like hipsters, prostitutes, or lumberjacks. welcome to nh.

Most emos were nothing more than posers, aka, scene kids, most of whom did not cut. Though I remember my first 8th grade visit to the High School I would be attending. I overheard a Goth/emo girl say to someone that she cut herself (as if it were something to brag about) and she had some type of leather covering on her wrists that was both stylish and meant to conceal the cuts. Wow, HS is a fu@!ed up place, I thought.

I am so old..... bc I am just so confused why would anyone want to look like something they are not? And then judge other people while not wanting to be judged themselves??

anywhoooo, homeschooling is super easy in NH there are lots of groups and activities and support. My kids are much younger, but there are always teen and pre-teen meet ups, dances, various classes, field trips and such.

I don't think there is much judgement going on, but then again, I am probably just oblivious to it since I don't care that much.

I work at a psych hospital. Not seeing many cutters these days. The new adolescent emo thing is gender neutrality. Actually, they like to call themselves "binary neutral." Adolescents are interesting people!

That would seem the case these days but EMO like Goth has been around for a while now. I assume like most anything else the first wave is always more intense
