Now its going to be hot, sunny, smoggy and crappy.

Some good news though, we might be able to possibly come out to NH in May. If not, then it will still be in the late summer. I will keep my fingers crossed for the early one. The thing is, is now I am not sure what town I really want to go to. I have been looking at Portsmouth, Exeter, and still Keene. Anyone care to give me some pointers?? Lol.
Exeter--great schools (comparatively speaking), but higher property taxes and higher prices. Also VERY low crime. You might actually find it boring that if you hear a gunshot, it's just someone getting a deer, not another gang-banger.

No interruptions on KTLA (in memory of Hal Fischman) of another high-speed chase on the 60/57/91 until they run out of gas in front of their "homies" house...

Portsmouth is okay, but kind of touristy. Try Greenland, if you can afford it--still fairly close to Portsmouth, but nicer, IMHO.

Hello Suzette, From what I've been learning from everyone posting...I think that somewhere near Exeter or Portsmouth would be better coming from Southern California. I've been near Keene but not in it, but the areas around it seemed rural to me. Which is nice but a lot different...then again if that is what you want then it's great.

I can't wait for you to visit New Hampshire & for you tell us about your experiences in the Northeast It's a wonderful place to spend time.

Hi Colin....are you busy packing?! I'm sure there is lots to do & your move is getting closer...so exciting!

The eyes are from this site: BestSmileys.com

Emoticons are ok, but no copyright material, so if it has a watermark, name or tag then it's a no-no (also don't use Disney characters).
Some members have the emoticons/images linked to their photobucket account, because when you hot-link to websites you don't have
control over the image. You copy & paste IMG code to your post.

A post I read from a mod about graphics & wanted to share to make sure we follow the rules http://www.city-data.com/forum/3136229-post1320.html

Hi Guys A couple of subjects I wanted to jump in on!

First Suzet... I know you've fallen in love with the idea of Keene, but boy when I think of the HUGE difference between your area of So Cal and Keene, I can't help but wonder if in a year you'll feel as isolated, bored and bitter as Tara has become I know you're somewhat of a "work widow" and I'd hate to think of you in a place like Keene, which is sort of a little pocket of activity, relatively speaking, for the area. I came across one of her old posts a few days ago (from before the snow started) and it's sad how much she loved it here until winter. SO I would say first, to definitely rent for a FULL YEAR. Then if you still love NH, but maybe not the area, you can up and move to another part of the state. The seacoast might be about 100 miles from Keene, but it's a whole world away, if you know what I mean. You need to visit the area, stay a week here, a week there, it's as simple as that Don't make your decision on where to live on the Internet!

And a question regarding copyrighted images--I found an awesome picture of a greenhead, which I wanted to post on one of the recent threads. I emailed the copyright holder, and asked permission to post, and I now have permission, as long as I direct link to him, and add a link to his website (amazing photographs from New England) However, is it allowed at all to post a copyrighted image?? And if we do post one of our own pictures, and CD uses it (as some of my pictures have been used in the "city profile" area) does that mean CD now has a copyright to my work? Maybe I should take this to the admin area... but you know an awful lot of the workings of CD both Suzet and Buggaboo.

It would be great if some of you So Cal folks could plan a trip for the same time! Imagine the fun you'd have together!!!

Hi Valerie, From what I've learned links are acceptable. I'm not sure if you can post the copyright images even with permission.

Two moderators that I've learned a lot about copyright from are da jammer & 2goldens. If you DM one of them, I'm sure they could help you out.

Also, I believe the person that clicks the camera to capture the image owns the copyright. You're just displaying your photos on CD.

Yep, us Cali folks could have a tour group through New Hampshire!

Ready or not here we come....traveling down 1A along the seacoast...then maybe through the Kangamangus...we can go looking for some meeses, lol.

Haha, you made me laugh about the high speed chases. Those people are so stupid, I mean they have the cops chasing them, the news helicopters flyin over them, do they really think they arent going to get caught. I used to watch channel 5 a long time ago. Now it is either channel 4 or MSNBC. I havent heard of Greenland. I will have to look that one up.

I like the gunshot going off too. Hunters. I think we had a thread on that subject. For us west coasters, that is something I have never been exposed to. I dont think I could. Please hunters dont get mad at me, you guys go for it. I just couldnt. Hell, I pulled over and cried for like 30 mins one time when a squirrel ran out in front of me and I hit it.

Sure Val, just take the wind out of my sails!! Haha. Yes I know I have fallen in love with the idea of Keene. I am going to kidknap the hubby and get his rear on a train so we can get out there. If he doesnt keep to his word about us coming out there in the summer, that is what I am going to do. I know what will get him out there, a big quake!! That will scare him into us coming out there. When we actually do get out there, I still want to meet with you and discuss our options, and maybe other places you can suggest for us to go look at. Plus it would be nice to meet you.

Hey Boo, I have a great idea, lets leave the hubbys and lets head to NH for a visit. Us Cali girls in NH...haha that would be something. I love the little bus pic you have up, too cute.

Valerie, I am sorry, I forgot to answer your copyright question.

I have no idea!! lmao. Just kidding.

I believe if you have the owners permisson it is ok. But the link to his personal website, hmm, I dont think that is allowed, as that would be advertising. It isnt like you are posting a link to an article, it is just straight to his website. This copyright thing is kind of confusing to a lot of us .

About CD owning the copyright to your work, I dont think so. I can go ask, but I dont think that is right. They are your pictures. I will find out for sure and get back to you, unless you have already spoken to admin.

Val,

This is great information and probably the one thing I am most afraid of. I need to spend time there and thankfully I am several years away from a big move so it should work out well for us. My first solo visti is coming up and yes, I think a SoCal tour would be great .

Any takers??

I'm sorry Suzet, and maybe, just maybe, Keene will be just what you need. But you need to get out there and spend at least a couple of days before you decide--actually a West to East tour of New Hampshire would be good! You could start off in Keene, then tour the White Mountains, Lakes Region, then head to the seacoast. See what floats your boat LOL!! The thought of a quake scares me, I can't imagine going through an earthquake--give me blizzards any day-at least we get plenty of warning and can get prepared

FYI, my mom traveled out to So. Cal a couple of years ago via train, and back again because she won't get on an airplane, no way, no how. She absolutely LOVED the trip. Previously, she had never been out of New England (and she's 70+ years old!) Pretty cool
