I suggest a place between Hanover and Boston. How about New London? You can spend a night there then drive south to the Henniker and Hillsborough area or over to Concord. That way you'll be half way back to Boston come Monday afternoon.

I'd also suggest Boston, MA for Sunday and Monday if you haven't really explored the city and wouldn't mind a large urban setting. There are usually bargain hotel rates to be found on Sunday nights especially in the winter (but watch out for valet parking charges at center city hotels.) For a splurge, the Taj Boston Hotel, which was formerly the Ritz Carlton, is right on the Boston Common. Then wander the streets of Beacon Hill, an astoundingly beautiful area.

Hello friends,

I hope everyone is doing well. Thank you for your replies thus far.

I think we will avoid spending a day in Boston - because I lived there for several years, but I was so overworked, that I never visited anywhere outside of Boston.

Does anyone have experience staying at any of the hotels in Hanover of White River Junction?

The hotels on campus, e.g. Dartmouth Inn, are sold out or beyond our budget, so we were thinking of opting for one of the other inns or chain hotels around Hanover/West Lebanon. Any suggestions please? This would just be for the duration of the conference

Are there any other towns that we can spend a few hours at while driving back to Boston?

Thank you!
Mengembara

The historic Hotel Coolidge in downtown White River Junction, VT has cheaper rooms but due to the ski season weekend, prices won't really be cheap. That goes for hotel/motel/B&B rooms everywhere around Hanover. Check out Trip Advisor for reviews and prices.

Try the Residence Inn (just outside of the town of Hanover):

Residence Inn Hanover Lebanon|all-suite hotels in Hanover Lebanon NH

Avoid the chain hotels near Sykes Ave in White River Jct.

There is also a Days Inn in Lebanon, only about 4 miles from Hanover. I stayed there once, it isn't bad.
