Default NH View Tax???

Just wanted to ask what this is all about? Is there actually a seperate, or soon to be seperate tax for the view from your home? Or, is it included in your property tax? Obviously a home with a view has a higher property tax, but can this state really charge above and beyond the property tax for your view???? Are we crazy?

Just wondering because I heard something about an 80 acre orchard somewhere in NH being charged $200 a day in taxes because of the view. The orchard's been in the family for 200 years, and this poor guy has to sell it. I don't own a home yet, and if this is the case, maybe I don't want to stay in NH!!!

Imagine what this will do to our #1 money maker (tourism). A hotel room with a view is already too expensive for the average traveller.

Anyone experiencing this yet? Do other states tax you for your view?

The View is taxed with your regular property tax. The orchard you refer to is a commercial property, so it probolbly is in a diffrent tax braket. PPl are having a fit about it due to NH not takeing the view into consideration before. And the company that did the new Property values took the view way to far. Most states it is just Say it is worth a couple thousand. But NH Hired a Taxachusettes Firm and well they said hey your view is worth $30,000 - $100,000 And Lynch Being the Tax and Spend Demacrate that he is, Is just telling ppl , You own it tuff pooh NOW GIVE ME YOUR TAXES. TAX AND SPEND ME AND ALL MY NEW LITTLE DEMACRAP FRIENDS WILL TURN THIS STATE INTO ALL THE OTHER LIBERAL NEW ENGLAND STATES LOL TAX AND SPEND TAX AND SPEND,

Avitar Associates of New England, the company hired by the State to do the property assessments, is a New Hampshire company located in Chichester.

Wow the person that came to do my Property in Manchester said they where based in Mass, Did Avitar sub contract some work out or was there 2 contractors possibly? I was just passing on what the estamator told me.

I don't know if Avitar used sub-contractors or not. Part of the problem was that towns, in the past, were using different companies for assessments. Not every company uses the same parameters so some towns were getting off lighter than other towns. The State was wanting more consistancy in evaluations. The change has been blamed in part on New Hampshire's lack of a sales tax or personal income tax, which means that property taxes bear much of the revenue burden. In recent years, the state has been pushing towns to keep their property assessments up to date so that none of this crucial revenue is missed. The town I live in base our property tax on the total valuation of the town. The percentage of increase in that number is added to your individual property tax liability. No one actually came to my home to assess it, not this year anyway.
What I do know is that every article I have read about the "View Tax" situation, Gary Roberge, the CEO of Avitar is always being interviewed as a result of his company's involvement.

Ok In Manchester it was Vision Appraisal Technology out of Northboro Taxachusetts. So ya there where 2 Diffrent company's doing it. But it took alot to find the info. LOL I'm sure they did more than manchester as well but their site has a link to manchester property taxes.

The Avitar Co is in the center of the "view tax" controversy and that's why I mentioned it. I doubt if many people in Manchester will be subjected to this ridiculous new form of squeezing more money out of taxpayers. But, depending on how much the city needs more revenues, they just might start charging those who can see the New Boston Air Station.

Thnaks for clearing that up. I thought the view tax was something new.

Yes, Manchester is suffering too. My parents own a house on the outskirts (very close to Auburn) and their property more than doubled in value after this last assessment.

Whatever happened to that live free or die phrase? Where exactly does the money go from the taxes they charge? Do the state workers do better than the average NH'er as far as wages go?

A friend from NH told me that most tax $$$$$$$ goes toward roads and school expences.
