We will be vacationing in New Hampshire when my birthday occurs (in mid-August), and I would like your suggestions for a romantic dinner. We are looking for a "country inn" type of restaurant with tablecloths. wine, a wood-burning fireplace, and English or American-type food. (My husband and I both enjoy prime rib very much.) Anything in a small town within about one hour of Concord would be ideal. (I Googled for suggestions, and most of the suggestions were either Italian cuisine and/or in the Bedford/Manchester area.) For special dinners, we usually spend about $150-$200, including wine, tax, and tip.

However, of course, feel free to make this a discussion for ALL areas of New Hampshire and all types of cuisine!

People like the common man. I think it's bland food but there is one in concord.

I've heard good things about the Copper Door Restaurant in Bedford, and that would seem to fit your criteria. Within 1 hour of Concord encompasses a good chunk of the state, you would probably find more restaurant choices meeting your criteria out in Portsmouth, which is an hour from Concord.

In my area there is also The Millstone in New London, which is supposed to be good and more upscale. New London is about 45 minutes from Concord.

Bedford Village Inn. Very upscale and about 1/2 hour from Concord. You could spend the night there too.

Angelina's is great for right in Concord. Like KCZ said though, the BVI is probably your best bet for a nice and romantic dinner out!

My parents took a trip to the Lakes region last fall in an early scouting trip on my behalf. They loved The Wakefield Inn, so much in fact, my mother hopes I choose that area so that she has an excuse to go back and stay/dine there often. From the site pictures and menu, looks to fit your criteria.
