I guess because some of us are looking forward to upcoming fairs, we skipped right over the type of fair that I believe you were talking about in your initial post.
Many towns in New Hampshire have something called Old Home Day (or week). Typically held in July or August, this is the time for residents to gather together at the town center and enjoy some downtime in a family-friendly environment. Local businesses rent table space to present themselves to residence, usually giving away some sort of goodies.
Here in Londonderry, Old Home Days include a senior dinner & concert, performances by our HS jazz Band and Drumine, Kids Night on the common, an Old Home Day Parade, fireworks, display, and so much more.
Nearby Hudson also celebrate Old Home Days with a large fair/midway with rides and games of chance.
Derry does not celebrate Old Home Days, but instead has DerryFest each September. As it member of the Derry Garden Club, I try to keep that day free so that I can spend time at our table to help with answering questions about our club, and how a Garden Club contributes to the community.
None of these can compare to a country fair, but its nice to attend these gatherings to bump into other town residents that you may not have seen for a while.Or for new residents who haven't quite figured out what town to settle into...
