Waste of taxpayer money? 1,2 or 3 of those 3 DWI drivers of 453 drivers, if not stopped, could have killed many innocent people that night.
Did a google news search of Maine crashes the evening of the Maine sobriety checkpoint for in that area of Maine: There were no Maine fatality crashes involved a DWI driver.
Same with the Portsmouth NH sobriety checkpoint, There were no Portsmouth NH area fatality crashes involving a DWI driver.

Deaths from drunk or POT drivers that did not occur make the sobriety checkpoints well worth the taxpayer money.

Incidentally, when a single DWI driver kills someone on a roadway;many first responders have to go to the scene, many police, many firefighters, many state officials have to go to the scene, state workers for road repairs, etc. Many hours of OT need to be paid. Than it costs hundreds of thousands of dollars in court costs to prosecute a DWI driver. ALL very expensive to taxpayers.
1, 2 or all three are likely to have not actually been drunk at all and will beat the charges, meanwhile manpower was wasted that could have been apprehending real drunks and stopping real accidents from occurring.. but please continue in your mislead praise of what is basically a scam

It's far worse than a scam unfortunately. When our Constitution is eroded under the guise of protecting citizens, then citizens are left with no real protection at all, since that comes from our Constitution.

Someone far wiser than I stated...Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. After fifty nine years on this earth I finally purchased a firearm for the fact that those who are willing to give up liberty are multiplying too quickly, the damage they promote under the guise of protection is far more dangerous than all the drunks and drug addicts combined
