I hope you have a wonderful time!! Hopefully you can meet some board members while you are there. That would be so fun. Is your wife sad that she isnt going with you this time?? I would be.

The "materialistic world of SoCal", we know how true that is. Cant wait to leave all this behind too.

You have to take a lot of pics for our pic thread.
Hi Suzet!

No need to stowe-away, you can have the seat right next to me.
We can go on an across the state trip to meet other board members!

I am the exact opposite when it comes to flying. I cant stand to drive long distances, even to Vegas I just hop on a plane and "get there."

I am; however, flying Southwest this trip. The airfare was relatively cheap $346.00 RT. Probably because the plane has a few cracks in it .

Yes, I believe my wife is sad she is not going this trip. I actually cant believe she gave her OK on this. We always travel together with the kids everywhere we go so this will be a little strange for us. She will be jealous; however, I believe she feels this is another step twords her permenant relocation someday. I hope so too.

Lots of pictures for sure. Too bad I cant get ahold of some "Snow Candy"

I second Val's suggestion of Hart's Turkey Farm. Great food- I love their stuffing! Also in Lincoln, if you want pizza- I suggest Elvios-great pizza. Staying in Lincoln you definetly want to take a ride over the Kancamagus Highway over to Jackson/North Conway area-what a beautiful ride!

Don't know if you will be exploring the Laconia/Lakes Region area-if you are I will be happy to answer any questions the best that I can-just ask.

Good luck-take lots of pictures!

Hi Nicolem,

I will be exploring this region. Hopefully I wont drive into a lake looking around so much. Thanks for the info on the Turkey Farm and Pizza. I will be taking this list with me for reference. I can tell already one week will not be long enough.

I would love to have the seat next you. But the whole flying thing. Wow. I think I'd have to meet you there and take the train. Haha Southwest has been gettin a bad rap lately about not liking "pretty girls" to fly on their planes. Haha, have you heard all those stupid girls that were on Dr. Phil the other day....oh southwest doesnt like pretty girls, so that is why they picked on us..Please!! Some people just have no lives.

Tell your wife she isnt alone. My hubby is flying to Mexico, then Texas, then Florida over the next 2 weeks. Well, I guess I shouldnt be too mad, I can go out and party now...haha j/k. Yes you going out there is the first step to you moving your family out there. I hope NH is everything you want it to be. And I am jealous too. We will be looking forward to seeing the pics you take.

If you cant get snow candy, isnt there softies in NH? Or was that Vermont? Either way, they sounded really good.

Unfortunately, we have plans for that weekend and probably won't be around while you're in the area - unless you extend your visit for another week...then we could take you to a blue grass jam on a Friday night!

One thing hubby said I should mention - If you will still be working when you move to NH - make sure if you're living south of "the notch" (Franconia Notch) that your job is south of the notch - if working north of the notch, live north of the notch. The notch has it's own weather pattern in the winter. We have friends who live in Lincoln and they've told us there are many times they will be driving from Lincoln to Bethlehem or Littleton and going through the notch on I-93 there will be almost blizzard conditions with either no snow or very little snow before and after that area.

One day this winter the weather was fine in Lincoln, they headed to Littleton, hit the notch area, had near white-out conditions, got out of the notch, and the sun was out! Very "quirky" weather in that area

Hi Captjob,

it reminds me of when hubby & I were looking for land. A couple christmas's ago, he had the week off but I had to work. So he went up and met with our agent to see some properties, and took our camera and his laptop. I knew when he and the agent were going to meet, so he also had my cellphone (which never got any reception! luckily our agent had hers and I had her number). so whenever they looked at something, we talked on the phone so I could get an idea of what they thought of the place, and he took lots of pics. Then at night he'd upload them on a webpage (if you don't have your own site, you can use flickr or photobucket or one of those) so I could see. It wasn't ideal, but that way I wasn't completely left out either. still kinda exciting!

BTW, when we would drive around looking at towns, I had a piece of paper I took notes on: looking for where things like the grocery store was, the vet, the banks, the pharmacy... things we'd need to use a bit. Just so we'd have an idea how much was right in town, or one town over (how long did it take to get there), or more. And any complications there might be. It was just another bit of info gathering to help consider which places might be better than others. schools not being a concern for us.

This is great information. I had never thought of that, thank you. This could very possibly be a big issue. Yet again some prime information from those in the know.

Thats why I am here!

This is definatly the plan. I will take notes and compare distances as well. This trip will be just like yours I anticipate. I will explore and send all the info back online to keep them informed. How did it work out for you?

Here's an example about the weather from the weather channel - right now it's 32* here in Littleton with light snow, mixed with freezing rain. We supposed to have maybe 2-4 inches of snow tomorrow with high winds, but the warning also says this:

BY FRIDAY MORNING...THE FAVORED NORTHWEST FACING SLOPES WILL RECEIVE BETWEEN 6 AND 12 INCHES OF SNOW. THE COMBINATION OF FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW MAY RESULT IN NEAR WHITEOUT CONDITIONS... ESPECIALLY IN THE NOTCHES.

Well, the first trip we did jointly, so I'd met our agent and seen some of the 'points of interest'. The second trip that hubby made by himself.. he was seeing lots in the same two towns I was already familiar with, so that part was easy.

How was it with the separation? frustrating. exciting. I so wanted to be there, but I just couldn't take the time off from work. Turned out my cellphone (T-mobile) had no reception, so he could never call me (and then I'd try calling him... and it never worked). But then I'd get frustrated and call the agent on her phone (United Cellular) and hers worked just fine. So, aside from the frustration of waiting for them to get whereever they were going and link up with me on the phone... (ack!!! ) it worked out well.

Of course, looking at pics of land is a little more difficult to visualize than looking at pics of a house. But I definately had to agree with his assessment of one lot in Antrim: great if you want to farm rocks. my word I've not seen so many rocks in one spot! And I did grow up in southern NH. We ended up buying the lot he liked the most - and I like it too (I have since been to see it. a few times).

It's an unfortunate way to do things, but it's at least some involvement.

Remember also, after you've looked at some areas and have a street address, you can give it to your wife and she can pull up googlemaps and see a birdseye view of the whole area. that can tell you a bit about it too.
