Perhaps it is time to come up with a sensible law ( AND ENFORCING IT ) regarding tailgating, especially in light of the crash on 89 in Bow this weekend
There is a law already (following too closely) but like the cell phone law, it's unenforced or enforced too little. This could have just as easily been a case of a cell phone in hand/distracted rear-end collision type of accident. Just because people tailgate and bad things happen doesn't mean we should forget about other forms of dangerous driving, like texting and driving. They are both serious problems. Everyone is such a hurry these days - many don't think about reaction time. To much aggressiveness.....
There are signs for decreasing speed limits all along that stretch. That driver apparently wasn't paying attention to either the signs or the traffic. Pulling licenses from people like that might keep the rest of us safer. She's lucky no one was seriously hurt.
Actually cell phone use is no more distracting than messing with your radio, heater or GPS.
Texting ,however should carry the same penalty as DWI.......license gone.
I see distracted drivers waiting in front of me, every day, fail to react when our signal turns green. After 5 or 6 seconds I have to honk to wake them up.

You didn't like having to pay a fine for using your phone while driving, am I right?
Nope but I have had more of my share of non cellphone using tailgaters lately a problem that just seems to be getting worse and one I blame on other gadgets like the devices they put into cars that make idiots think they will be able to safely push the envelope and still not rear end anyone.

True enough but rarely do you see anyone cited before the fact ( accident ) Citing them after is hollow at best.
We simply do not use our cell phones (no smart phones) when we are driving alone. When we are both in the car the passenger handles the communications. When I am riding the scooter (Burgman 650) I do not communicate with anyone. I ride to be alone and enjoy the riding.
I give the tardy about 3 seconds to wake up. Less if I am feeling irritable.
Why not ban both tailgating AND cellphone use while driving? And it's either too many cars on the road or... hardly any. And when on an empty road, then the hazard is having wildlife straying into the roadway.
