A few weeks ago I went down to MA with friends, and as we were leaving my friend was like "crap, be right back" and had to run inside to leave his pistol behind. It's just little things that like where NH is far superior to MA. Too much nanny-state nonsense down there.
Good grief. Yes, it's so awful that your friend had "to leave his pistol behind". Amazing any of you survived the harrowing trip down to Mass. w/o "packing heat".
And someone actually compared Mass. with Communist E. Germany? That's both disgusting & ridiculous. Oh, I left out incredibly ignorant. People who lived in E. Germany back then would've given anything to have lived in a place like Massachusetts.
I was actually going to make some realistic comments about the original topic. The big advantage to living in NH is the way lower cost of housing. And it is less stressful up here by & large.

Sorry but there have been a number of NH residents who forgot to leave a weapon behind and got arrested in MA. Peaceful citizens who did nothing wrong but accidentally break statist control freak laws in a neighboring state. Having something like that happen to you seriously disrupts your life, and if you are poor, can absolutely ruin you.
If you run into a LEO who is having a bad day, one empty casing stuck to your shoe can net a felony conviction
It's not just about guns and income tax, my disdain for Taxachusetts is the whole nanny state approach to every aspect of life -- we're talking about a state which issues special ID cards just for buying a drink. https://www.freedominthe50states.org.../massachusetts

Yes, it is awful. Why should a responsible and law abiding American citizen have their rights violated by some nanny state goons? It has nothing to do with need, it is a right that Americans enjoy throughout most of the country. Not Mass, having American stuff in Mass is illegal.

It is ironic in that I feel no need to carry a gun around New Hampshire yet I am allowed to do so. Traveling in Massachusetts at night less than five miles south of New Hampshire along I-495 and I would actually feel much safer packing heat yet I am not allowed to do so.
Constitutional rights should supersede other state's laws. People should only be subjected federal law and the laws of there state of residence at all times. It would eliminate a lot of confusion.
How would you feel if MA residents came here and *****ed about our laws? We complain all the time about people moving here and wanting to change NH to match the state they moved from. Let MA have its own stupid laws if they want. No one forces you to go there.
Take a wrong at an unmarked border crossing, become a felon under Mass law.

Massachusetts does that all the time -- not only do MA residents come here and ***** about our laws, their Attorney General leverages consent decrees, lawsuits, and more in attempts to force our businesses to enforce their gun laws and taxes, since Dukakis they've been sending agents to sit in the parking lots at our fireworks stores and liquor stores to catch MA residents shopping here. (Governor Mel had the right idea).

I have friend who live just a few hundred feet north of the border (you can literally see the Boston skyline from their back porch). Take one wrong turn on your way to their house, become a felon in the eyes of MA.
The quotes below pretty well nail down any comments I would add.
My wife was assigned to a post in The Peoples Democratic Republic of Taxxachusetts but we bought in NH for all those reasons. And compared to the Free States, Taxxa IS East Germany, relatively speaking.
Ironic that where our Revolution began is where the Tories now rule. Irony irony irony.

Nevertheless I could not find anything in MA that gave me the same lot size and layout at any price under half a million dollars as my New Hampshire property and as others have stated there are additional intangible benefits to New Hampshire citizenship.

If the OP thinks southern NH property taxes are high they should live in Ma and pay Ma property taxes. And on top of property taxes there are rubbish fees, per bag and per yr. Water fees, sewer. Excise tax on your car and trailer. Thats in addition to registration fees. NH residents have no idea how good they have it. You have no sales tax, no income tax unless you work in Ma, no nanny state laws etc. The commute from anywhere in Ma to Boston can be horrible. Accidents tie up 128, 93, 495. Problems with the T add time. Its no cakewalk living here, folks. And thats only a few problems here.
Are you kidding? You must be. Have you compared taxes for comparable properties, not just as a percentage of sales price?
