I'm just starting to learn MIG and basic welding so not looking to get into any bulk purchase of material until I really enjoy and feel confident enough to start building things (more so with my woodworking I do).
People recommended scrap yards. I mean, sure, for what I'm starting anything would work as long as I can weld. But down the road I'd like to make my own table legs first and expand from there. Mainly say 1.5"-2" square steel tubing.
Where would be a good resource in obtaining something like that? I was doing some shopping on Metalsdepot and other sites and seems like it would make sense to buy these in 24-foot sections at a time via freight. I just don't know how expensive these are compared to obtaining the same material and thickness locally (probably will still need to be delivered unless they can cut down to 8-foot lengths.
Mainly, I'm looking for good source near the Seacoast and surrounding areas.
The guys from Manchester Makerspace are big fans of Cohen Steel in Concord, which sells standard sizes and cut-offs.
