Hi,
just joined the forum.
Towns to consider in the area are
Wilton:
land probably the least expensive of the towns listed,
leaning towards artists, writers,
trying to revitalize,
about 45 minutes from Nashua and Manchester (larger cities in NH, malls, etc)
Manchester Airport good alternative to Boston's Logan airport (less traffic, easier parking, etc)
Peterborough:
- quaint New England town
- nice small business center
- about an hour from Manchester and Nashua, 45 min from Keene
Keene:
- nice small city with state college located at the start of main street
- very nice main street (featured in Jurasic Park movie where the animals stampeded)
- various shopping centers, no "large" mall.
- about 20 minutes to Vermont
- about 90 minutes to Manchester and Nashua
All towns between Wilton and Keene on Route 101 are rural with land and some with views of hills and of course Mount Monadnock.
Check out these web sites:

http://www.townofpeterborough.com/ (Town of Peterborough site)
http://www.mledger.com/index.shtml (broken link) (Peterborough/Monadnock region paper)
http://www.ci.keene.nh.us/ (City of Keene site)
http://www.sentinelsource.com/index.asp (Keene newspaper)
Good Luck!!

If four seasons, beautiful landscapes, small towns with freindly people are what you want, you probably can't find a better place. I spent most of my summers in that region and occassionally still visit, it is beautiful, very quite and peaceful. Keen is a real pretty small city.

Monadnock region is gorgeous. Not THAT far from Boston (I wouldn't commute it, but its not a bad drive to go visit the city) and not too far from Nashua/Manchester either.

Dear american friend,
Living here at the base of Mount Monadnock ... is the best move I ever made. It has been an incredible place to raise my kids.
I work in Keene which hosts all the services I require. The average pay rate is generally very acceptable unless you want to commute to a larger city. Depending on your background, there are plenty of employment opportunities. Keene, as a city, is very generous and boasts many perks for its residents. It is a strategic location to Vermont and not too bad of a commute to Boston.
The housing prices are average but the taxes seem a little excessive. As a college town it hosts a great school system as well as specialty education resources.
The hospital is staffed and part of the state's premier teaching college/hospital - Dartmouth Hitchcock.
The recreation opportunities are unbeatable and I could not list all that is available.
Keene is an attractive city with wonderful old buildings and many victorian homes. Winter in Keene is a Currier and Ives portrait. Summer in Keene is a constant celebration. Fall Keene holds the internationally renouned annual pumpkin festival.
You can read more here: Greater Keene Chamber of Commerce - Keene, NH
Previously a native of Boston, I am a strong advocate of the Monadnock Region.
Mount Monadnock - live beautifully.

AmericanWoman, I got a little bit of a chuckle, I think american friend probably has made their decision - as their original post was done in the year 2006 However, I'm sure your information is valuable for anyone thinking of the region for future living.

well you really weren't the one that dragged it out of the ruins of C-D I see someone else did yesterday and so that's why it was towards the top of "newer" postings, but I didn't want you to think the OP was being rude by not responding and does that mean you might resurrect some of my old posts too? wooohooo LOL, welcome to the forum jaqui
