Default Things for kids to do.....

I'm heading to NH the week of April 21st. Is there anything to do up there at that time for the kids? I'm trying to think of things for my 13 and 7 year olds. We probably will be staying somewhere near or in Concord. I know about the planetarium, but is there anything else? Is the maple syrup season over then? Going to Manchester is not out of the question. We are doing some fact finding/town checking/house hunting while we are up there, but that's not very much fun for the kids. Any thoughts guys?

The SEE science center in Manchester is fun! I am not a maple syrup expert, but I think you could still find some stuff going on with that. Also, the Fishercats season starts next week, maybe you can catch a game in Manchester?

Thanks AngelaK! I'll check the SEE Center out. The Fishercats game is a great idea as well. Good suggestions.

Do either of your kids have Ivy League aspirations? I know they are still young...but you could still head over to Hanover. It's a fun town to walk around and the Dartmouth campus is beautiful.
Just across the river in Vermont is the Montshire Museum that the kids would love: Montshire Museum: Welcome to the Montshire!. You could check out a Dartmouth baseball or Lacrosse game if on eis happening. Have pizza at Everything but Anchovies.
Hanover is an hour or so from Concord.
Hope you have a great trip!

While your in Concord, you could consider the New Hampshire Audubon. It located at 3 Silk Farm Road. Or take a ride up Rt. 106. There is a maple syrup producer directly across from the New Hampshire International Speedway. I'm not sure if the weather will hold out long enough for you to view sap boiling.......but you never can tell.

Talking Hello "BRYFRY"!!! Wow!

THANKS FOR YOUR THREAD "BRYFRY"!!

That sounds like so much fun!!

I remember that "BUGGABOO2" had posted something about a

PONY FARM in TEMPLE, the address is 11 PONY FARM LANE, 03084

Tel. (603) 654-6308 I believe that "BOO" & the family

seemed to have loved it!!

Also, you could go visit the SHAKER VILLAGE in Canterbury, it has tours

available

In addition, my understanding is that there is an ORGANIC FARM in Southern

NH, that has tours, and special things for children, I will get that info for you

as well! Its a working farm with different ongoing classes.

Anyway, I will see what else I can find, and post it later.

Take good care,

Have a great day everyone!!

I was going to tell you about Charmingfare Farm in Candia, but just pulled it up and found that it's not opening until the 29th...

As Angela mentioned, the SEE Science Center in Manchester, maybe the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium in Concord (Welcome to the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium)

Not sure if it will still be open and working, but The Sugar Shack in Strafford may be a possibility. This is on Route 4, just off of Rte 125. They have all sorts of different programs throughout the sugar season. Pure New Hampshire Maple Syrup from The Sugar Shack There are many smaller ones as well, including one here in Londonderry.

I'll try to post more later..

Funny you mentioned this! My wifes grandfather lives in Hanover and he and his wife are members of the Montshire! I've been there a dozen times and it still amazes me. Great grandpa is an active alumni of Dartmouth (he's 101 years old!) and is one of five living members of his class still! BTW, my wife went to Wellesley as did her aunt, grandmother, and geatgrandmother. I think I know where my daughter is probably going to go! The men in the family went to Dartmouth, so my son...who knows. All I know is that I'm going to be broke.

countrylv22, the Shaker Village is an excellent idea. My wife has mentioned it before and that might do the trick. "In addition, my understanding is that there is an ORGANIC FARM in Southern NH, that has tours, and special things for children" I think you might mean Stonewall Farm in Keene. We went there last year and it was very cool. Just missed the sugaring though!

jthibodeau, the Audubon is another great idea. My son was interested in that last time we were up but we ran out of time. It's on the list now!

We've been to the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium already, so maybe we'll skip this time, although it's a good take. Pretty cool stuff there.

All very good suggestions!!! Keep them coming!! Thanks everone!

What do your kids like to do?

If they like to learn about history, there is a self-guided tour at the State House and there is also the Museum of New Hampshire History.

New Hampshire State House Visitors' Center

NH Historical Society - Museum of New Hampshire History

Another idea is to take them up to Franconia Notch. If the tramway is still running up Cannon Mtn AND its a nice day, be sure to do it. Beautiful views of NH and VT from up there.
