Was wondering if any of those lakes will freeze over enough for Ice Skating? Or do they stay warm enough to change the micro climate up there?

[font=Verdana][font=Verdana]As a life long and 4 generation resident of Holderness I can tell you that the sidewalk issue was very big. This sidewalk is rarely ever used. Tax payers paid for this and many thought that those funds could be better used for things like improvements for our elementary school, social services for our low-income residents or road improvements. So you can understand why the locals were not happy about this seeing that we do not use it and it is rarely used at all. I know that you may disagree with our reasons to fight this project, but when your kids are in school and they have to share books for reading class, leaking school roof and limited technology it seems a bit crazy to pay for a sidewalk through town. We just have different priorities.
Big and Little Squam do freeze over, however due to the snow the contions are only good for skating if there has been a spot plowed off and the remaining snow is swept off.

Welcome LifeLongLocal of Holderness. I guess I didn't make it clear I've been here in this area for a long time and my family has been here decades. Sorry that the sidewalks of 2000 are still a sensitive subject for you. This is a free country the last time I checked. Live Free is the motto on NH . We are all entitled to our opinions but I'm afraid LifeLongLocal it is not fair to criticize my views or anyone elses on the board. As for schools well sorry LifeLongLocal you touched my nerves. As a seasoned educator in the Holderness Schools, Inter-Lakes School District and Winnisquam School Districts.. as an educational professional and object educational evalutator the Holderness Central School provides the highest standards of educational goals as well as being a school of caring. I think it would be a good idea to vent your frustrations no here but go to the school board meetings and or write in your local paper if you have such a strong opinions ..hope you can relax on beautiful Squam Lake Beach thats availble to all Holderness Residents and count your blessings. take care

Comet,
Be sure to check out the diner for sale across the street from 1 Mile West (1 mile west of the Mt. Sunapee circle.
I'm sure you could get a good deal on this diner and the previous owner put a great deal of work into updating it.
The place didn't close for lack of business. I heard it was health reasons combined with business partner issues.

LifelongLogical and kelticnomad -
Argue away. This board is a great place to vent frustrations. I have visited Holderness a couple of times many years ago and walking on Maine Street with the tourist cars was dangerous. I now live in Londonderry and we have just built sidewalks connecting our schools. We don't maintain them in winter (when they would most likely be used) because of some nearsighted cheapskates that dominate our town politics.
In any case let your politicians, neighbors and friends know your opinion by writing letters or e-mail to your town hall and/or local newspapers.

Hoping not to get too OT here, but have to agree w/ Greg that this path in Londonderry connects schools, not a lake, and is not maintained in winter. It WAS short-sighted in the way the path was designed (too narrow or too wide for present equipment to maintain) however, this would be a great opportunity to put our young people to work! It was suggested that it could be a great opportunity for high school students to earn $$ (or groups within the school) by doing some good old fashioned muscle-work and shoveling/maintaining the path, which I think is a great idea!

GregW you have wisdom but I will tell you I won't argue with lifelonglocal its not part of my personality profile Open minded exchange of ideas..if someone is not openinded..then its a waste of brain cells and I need every brain cell I can hold onto these days

Well Greg W you speak the truth again ..I speak for myself.. I need exercise but I will find any excuse not to do it...eg..Oh I can't the sidewalks aren't plowed..I noticed this year they did it in Plymouth........and now we have the gas issues...if we could walk more places easier then it might help...of course I have to be honest I'd probably still find excuses..I'm working on this weakness of mine
