I love this thread & this whole board! It is very helpful especially for all those who are seriously thinking of moving to NH! So far near the Conn River near Hanover is quite appealing! But Littleton is beautiful too! Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Here's some foliage

Milford has a lot more developments, though - not all quaint old houses.

And they seem to have a pumpkin festival

Oh- I think I mentioned my mom used to live on Purgatory Rd( never mind - that was next door in Mont Vernon)? well, here is Purgatory Falls.
My Husband and I were looking at Milford and Mont Vernon too! Mont Vernon, although very pretty it is still so small and I personally need a place to shop and just have the bare necessities etc. Milford or Keane? Maybe???

Milford is ok, it's getting kinda built up in places - the old farm fields you know. Milford is pretty easy to get to places from.

Keene is tied for the 3rd largest city in the state and is also a college town.

Never have been down to Milford but Mont Vernon is so picturesque! Wanna, are you referring to the California Tract Home developments that are springing up on farm property near Milford? What is most disturbing about these tract homes, especially in newer senior communities is the fact that the craftsmanship is so inferior and cheap. Dry wall in my opinion is worthless and truly devalues a property.

Ditto that, Comet!! I could write an awful lot about the inferior quality of CA tract home developments. It is sad to see that spring up here in NH, and I would steer clear of any town in which that type of development is built.

I guess that's what it is. I used to visit my mother & step-father out at the end of Richardson Rd. Last time my folks drove me out there (cause I couldn't remember how you got to the house!), I was amazed/appalled at all the cheap looking housing that had sprung up - especially right around Richardson Rd. geez. And so out of keeping with the flavor of downtown.

Default Keeping New Hampshire's Class and Charm

One of the reasons I began this thread was to somehow initiate others to become advocates to maintain and keep New Hampshire's Charm and Class which go hand and hand with the Small Town Feeling! Hot Water Radiator Heat and Not the California Forced Allergen Air Ducts, homes built with admirable craftsmanship throughout NH's small towns.

What is disturbing is when you are shopping at Hannefords and you run into the retirees from Mass who have migrated up here. It is so funny, as you can always pick them out, as they all look the same and unfortunately have the same predictable mindset. This migration or as I call it adverse migration from Mass will only dilute and eventually change New Hampshire's vintage Live Free and Die Spirit to another state motto which may be then; "Live for Free while we Tax you to Death!"

Comet, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your intention for this thread. CA tract homes are built slightly better than studio props! And don't even get me started on the air ducts!

Those of us who appreciate NH for the reasons you mention throughout this thread should do all we can to prevent it from deteriorating.
An orchard in Hollis was just sold for development and people say "it's ok...the new homes will still have to meet zoning requirements, and our property taxes will go down" Just as it is different here than it was 20 yrs ago, 20 years from now as the pace of "progress" is increasing rapidly, the charm, class and integrity of some NH towns could become a memory. Small towns all over the US have become urban-suburbanized, and it would be naive to think that the negatives of urban America do not go hand in hand with it.

Hi Bevw - Well....let's see......Monday we hit a high of 9....on Tuesday we were in the 50's....yesterday in the 20-30 range, today it's in the 20's and they're predicting (depending on the source) anywhere from 6-14 inches of snow between now and tomorrow afternoon It is snowing now, very lightly and there are still bare patches under the trees.

In the 2+ years we've lived in Littleton, one thing I've learned is not to trust the weather forecasts - just wait and see what comes out of the sky A couple of times we were supposed to get 3-6 inches and got a dusting to an inch, maybe......
