oh yes! I know of people who have done this. The cost is fairly high (but then the price of wedding dresses is astronomical!). Most seamstresses hate doing this, though. It's not because they dislike the work, it's the bridezilla issues that come along with it. They tend to say that nothing will make you hate sewing more than sewing for a bride. which is why even if I were a better/faster sew-er, I wouldn't want to get into that realm.

That's exactly what I've been told as well.

I'm not sure what it is. The comment about it being "too personal" may be the issue. One of our businesses is in the jewelry industry, and I've personally made custom wedding sets for many people over the years and never had anyone express a moment's disappointment, but there is something about that wedding dress that just can't seem to be perfect enough.

MtnFlyer, is Quilting Bee the appropriate spelling? (Bee?). I assume there may be a few around the state, however, I would not expect to see as many as you would near Lancaster, Penn!

That is exactly why Anne does not want to sew dresses for strangers. She has told me that "bridezilla" (great name BTW) is less of a problem than bridezilla's mother.

In the meantime she makes necklesses and ear rings for friends and herself to keep her hands busy. I help with the metal work but mostly stay out of her stuff.

it's sorta the whole package - if not the bride, then her mother (or both), or bridesmaids.... and they insist they're going to 'lose weight' and that you MUST make the dress for that size - which doesn't happen, they don't show up for fittings, they do things they aren't supposed to, they show up for fittings but wont' stand still for them... and of course then it's all your fault. Just not worth the aggrivation IMO.

I'll stick to setting diamonds for my contribution to the cause. What's the worst that can happen? I break a $20,000 stone? Seems a lot less stressful than dealing with the bridasaurus or the groom's future monster-in-law.

Come to think of it, I kept the jewelry businesses so I'd have something fun to do when I got into our other ventures for the money. What was I thinking?

Would be best and least expensive to get married in Las Vegas where you wind up only paying less than a $1,000.00 for everything!!!

Good morning sandbar - I'm not a golfer, but my ex-husband and parents both were - Bethlehem has a golf course/country club which looks quite nice and well-maintained - I'm sure my parents would have loved to play there I've seen a sign for one in Lisbon, but haven't actually seen the course. Mt. Washington Hotel also has a golf course that's beautiful. We took a horse-drawn carriage ride at the Mt. Washington that took us along the course - very well maintained, as you would expect. The one in Bethlehem and the Mt. Washington seem to be quite busy during the "season."

When we first moved to Littleton, I saw signs and advertising for one of those indoor golf places (for when you HAVE to have your golf "fix" in the winter <g>), but I'm not sure if that's still in business.
