I'll keep that in mind Comet. Unfortunately I think it's probably one of those professions like being a teacher or a cop. There are so many people out there that think it sounds like so much fun, that they do it for virtually nothing. It's the good old laws of supply and demand which is why they'll never have to pay teachers or police officers much money. There will always be a steady supply of people in line to take those jobs.

One night/early morning around 3 a.m. we were jolted awake by what sounded like either a fight or a dance going on upstairs, sounded like a lot of foot stomping. DH yelled at them to cut it out, we had to go to work in the morning, they could resume their activities once we were up - there were a couple of more "thumps" then it stopped. Once we heard what sounded like a chair scraping against the upstairs floor (there was no chair up there that would make that sound).
We never heard voices, just the stomping/thumping sound. Occasionally we we feel something "brush" against us or it would get colder, then it would go away. A few times, when I was working, I would see movement out of the corner of my eye, but I can't say for sure if that was actually "something" or just eyes going funky from looking at the computer screen for too long
For the most part, our "guests" stayed upstairs - our dog would go to the bottom of the stairs, hair would stand on end, she'd growl, then whine, then back away. Our cat spent 99% of the time in one room in the farmhouse and wouldn't venture out. It was interesting!

Dare, Comet, wanna & MtnFlyer when I told my husband about the Sugar Hill Inn being haunted he almost fell off his chair! OMG!!!
What should we do? I am going to call them tomorrow and ask about having the famous Ghost Suite? Should we call Bill Murry?
I guess I will make sure each of us wear our "Cross" to ward off any blood sucking vamps too!

Sandbar - I think you'll be safe from the vampires....haven't heard about any of those
You won't need Bill Murray - from what I understand, the Sugar Hill Ghost isn't nasty, should be fine. Besides, some people are more "sensitive" to the "other worldly" entities - maybe you aren't one of them......which would be good or bad, depending on whether or not you wanted to say hi to them!

Yep, DH stayed in Thayers before I moved up - he had one in his room that would turn on the bathroom light and either open or close the door to the bathroom during the night. <g>
I thought for vampires you needed garlic......or fire if you watched the show "Moonlight"........

Bretton Woods is allegedly haunted. I think I'll have to request that room next time we have a meeting up there and take a few digital recorders along just for fun.

MtnFlyer - We knew someone who worked there before the new management took over, and he confirmed that one room in particular had had some "activity." Some of the people who are easily "freaked" refused to stay in the room and had to be moved to another one
The Chamber of Commerce from Littleton.....at least I *think* it was the COC had their annual dinner there and the guest speakers were the guys from Ghost Hunters (?) - I don't watch the show, so I'm not sure if that's the name of it. I don't know if they actually "investigated" the room in question or not.
Another place, right here in town is the Beal House, which is a bed/breakfast and restaurant. It was closed for a time, then I believe it went into foreclosure and is now under new ownership and open again. That is supposed to have some "activity" as well.
Another little tidbit we heard about - Back in the 1700s or 1800s, I can't remember which, now, someone stole a silver chalice from a church in Canada, and it is supposedly buried somewhere in this area.....I have no idea if that's local folklore or based on a true story, though. Does make for some interesting conversations and speculation, though!

NE is an old area, at least for this country. With that much history, I suppose if there is activity to be found, that'd be a good place to look. I'm familiar with the guys that did the investigation up there. They at least partially solved the problem that Comet and I were discussing, in that their business plan is structured in a way that they don't charge a dime to the person asking for the investigation. Their compensation comes from the copyrights and purchasing of the show. The two guys that own the operation are actually plumbers by day so you've got to give them credit for thinking outside the box to make a buck.

Lakes Region, NH
Ashland, Alexandria, Hebron. These little towns nestled in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire are as close as you are going to get to the difinitive, old fashioned towns of the 50's and 60's. I grew up back in those days in Derry, NH...a town built around Hood Farms. When the cows were being moved from one pasture to the next, traffic stopped. The cows had the right of way. Derry has long since grown into a little city. I moved my family to the Lakes Region about 10 years ago to a tiny little hamlet nestled on the side of Cardigan Mountain known as Alexandria. Nothing much has changed there in 100 years and if the locals have their way, nothing much is going to. There are no gas stations, no convenience stores, no modern distractions. You can almost see Andy and Opie walking along toward their favorite fishing hole. But an ambitious kid can always ride his or her bike the five or so miles into Bristol and there's a lake and movie store, restaurants and convenience stores. The winters can be brutal, but there's no prettier place to live, work and raise a family.
