Country Living,

There is a diner for sale 1 mile west of Mount Sunapee. It was a successful breakfast and lunch place but the owner got sick and could no longer run the business. When it was in operation it did a good business and is right on RT 103 in Sunapee, NH. This area is a year round vacation spot and frequented by many snowbirds in the summer and weekend/holiday travelers year-round. The locals are very local to good places for breakfast.

Check it out.

Thanks for the Heads Up Lincolnian!!! Would you say this diner is near Newbury??? Countrylv22 and I will have to check this out. I think Mt. Sunapee is about 50 miles or so from Manchester.

Yes it is right near the Newbury line. It is right across the street from a popular evening restaurant called "1 Mile West." The diner used to be called Roseys and was quite popular.

Of course, the set is long gone and we all lived on postage-stamp sized lots rather than huge, beautiful 100yr old Victorians.

So the irony is, in order to find the American Dream, I moved away from the definitive image that represents the American Dream.
I didn't know It's a Wonderful Life was filmed in Encino??? I moved from Westlake Village six months ago but use to work at the Syndicate near the park. How do you like the change??

That is correct Puffle! All of Its a Wonderful Life was filmed in CA see list below from the IMDB. It is also implied that Bedford Falls is in Upstate New York where Seneca Falls is, See link:

  • "The set for Bedford Falls was constructed in two months and was one of the longest sets that had ever been made for an American movie. It covered four acres of the RKO's Encino Ranch. It included 75 stores and buildings, main street, factory district and a large residential and slum area. The Main Street was 300 yards long, three whole city blocks!"
  • Was also filmed at Beverly Hills High School
  • The scene on the bridge where Clarence saves George was filmed on a back lot on a day where the temperature was 90 degrees Fahrenheit. This is why James Stewart is visibly sweating in a few scenes.

IMHO any town with a population of less than a few thousand would probably fit the bill...except for the loose dogs! (Everyons seems to frown on that)

You are so correct NeverTooLate! Most every small town I know has loose dogs and they go any where they want. They actually are known on a first name basis by everyone in the town.

However, in France, they have more dog poop than all the 50 states combined, as dogs go anywhere and any time they want! No Leash Laws that I know of in France.

That's exactly true ~ as an elementary school teacher, I have found there's no truer statement than "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

I had to chuckle whenever I hear of people living in areas where they don't lock doors. We have lived in Miami, FL (will be moving north next summer) and have deadbolts on every door, windows that are almost never opened (5-8 times a year, if we're lucky, and then only opened when we're home), motion detectors and a major security system. We lock all doors, even when we're home. We never leave the house or go to sleep at night without the security system on. Our car doors are locked whether they are sitting in our driveway or if we are driving in them. And we don't live in the city, either, but a fairly safe suburb.
Whenever I visit my daughter up north, I go around behind her locking doors, shutting windows, etc. She thinks it's funny. She often leaves home without locking up. I wonder if I will ever be able to let down my guard and be less "safety conscious"(paranoid), even when I live in NH.
Living the way we do has just become a way of life. Yet another reason why we are so looking forward to a change.
Nancie

Gee nanciegord, I can't imagine having to live like that but I guess it's all in what you are used to, and you do what you have to. I couldn't tell you how many times I've gone to the back door in the morning to find it unlocked... one of my kids routinely leaves his bike outside in the driveway, and my cars are unlocked outside until we go to bed (sometimes I run outside at 1 or 2 am to lock them--oops!

I hope that once you're here and get settled in, you're able to relax just a bit--of course you do what you need to do to feel safe and secure...
