I love Bougainvillea. At my last home we had purple & red. It also comes in orange and white I think. My neighbor grows it on our shared fence, so we get to take advantage of the blooms...but don't have to worry about walking into the thorns. I think it can be grown indoors if cut back...maybe bonsai it & if it had enough light it would probably do well. They don't need or like a lot of water. It has a Mediterranean feel to it.

I'll have to get some better photos of it...but I was playing with my camera in February... this was taken from inside my dining room out my back window...the Bougainvillea is above the fence outside. On the fence below is a fig vine. The cherub is a plastic cling on my window, LOL.

Valerie, There must be a ton of different kinds of hens & chicks depending on region. Great photo! I'd love to have some more plants...wonder how they'd like California?

WannaComeHome, I think they are neat too...and thanks for the info!

The flower from previous post bloomed from the one below...you can see the shoot starting in the bottom part of the pix in between the rosettes...looks like a creature in there. There were four shoots this year. I read that they usually only have one shoot that blooms & then the plant dies afterward...mine is about six years old...keeps on kickin' & bloomin' I'll have to take a photo of my other one that's blooming...looks a lot different.

Valerie, Did you grow your calla lilies from the tubers & they just never came up...or did you have a plant that you cut back & didn't come back? They probably made a nice snack for some little creatures. My calla lilies are from my mom's divided plants. Sounds like there are gardening clubs that share in NH...that's great! I like the idea of a surprise garden. I've never had much luck with bulbs...got a few tulips, but they weren't that great.

Buck, I didn't think hens & chicks would survive the winter...or even jade. Thought it would have to be kept inside. That's nice to know. Do they bloom in New Hampshire? My hens & chicks just started blooming (pix below) & the blooms on donkey tail hanging on the wall are opened up more now.

Wow Boo, those pictures are amazing!!! I keep telling you have a gift for taking pics, and you have a gift for growing beautiful things. I cant grow for nothing. However, I can bake an awesome cupcake. After seeing what everyone here can grow, I think I will stick to baking, lol.

Somebody asked about Lady Slippers in another thread, so I posted these there also, but I thought maybe they should be in the garden thread instead (or also?) Anyway, here are some Lady Slippers that grow on my property (not in my garden though--they just come up when and where they please!!)

Buck Naked,

Are those turkeys? If so we must be neighbors. Late fall, just when they knew it was safe to come out, we were inundated with turkeys. I never knew they could fly until I found 5 of them in one of our trees. Maybe they're friends.

Hi Ella - Wild turkeys are making a come back in NH - we're in a northern part of the state and have them in our yard, too. They roost in the trees at night, that's why you saw them up there

We had a flock that frequented the bottom of a driveway in an apartment where I lived years ago - Many times I'd come around the corner and pull into the driveway and they'd be sitting there until they saw/heard the car and would take off in flight.....such fun having BIG turkeys flying at your car

Crabgrass does pretty well in my garden. Or at least tries to. Now if I could figure how to make oil out of the stuff?

Hi DareToDream,

I know the feeling. We have had as many as 20 turkeys in our yard. I've come home, startled my guests, next thing... I'm staring in an Alfred Hitchcock movie. LOL
