It was 2 years ago yesterday that we moved to Littleton and it's been a pretty good 2 years!
We were back in NYS this past weekend and although not the area we moved from, it was one we were very familiar with. We could not believe the change in that area. It was once an area we considered moving to. It's in the area of Saratoga Springs, but on the outskirts - it always had quite a bit of open land. Now, there are developments going in and I never saw so many for sale signs along one road in particular, in my entire life! Some of the laws have become more stringent and I guess the taxes are rising like wildfire, as well. We are so glad we left NY when we did. We have been back since we moved, but this trip we got to talk to more people about all the changes. The majority weren't even aware of the changes that have taken place, that's how insidious it has been. That area of NY has not seen the really high spike in housing prices that many areas have, but the area we relocated from, further south, is really having problems, from what we heard. Evidently the really high-priced houses are still selling rather quickly, but anything under 300K is just sitting there. New construction is just about nil. The majority of those moving to our old area are coming in from NYC and want the McMansion type of housing and won't even look at anything below 600K. Even land is not readily available for people to build on now. Evidently there are more laws that are trying to be passed in NYS, as well. More of the "we're just looking out for your safety" type laws - (i.e. things that should be common sense are now trying to be written as a law). We noticed the difference in the skies almost immediately - It was clear and sunny while we were in NY, but even so, the blue sky was NOT the blue sky we experience up here. The area we were in is not a major industrial region by any stretch of the imagination - about 30-45 minutes north of Albany, but there was still the "haze" that I associate with NY now. While driving through one little town in NY, we stopped for people in a crosswalk - They didn't want to cross! It was almost like they were afraid we'd wait until they were halfway across and then hit the gas We're so used to letting people cross, we didn't think twice about it....it's obviously not a common thing in NY!We really appreciate the lack of laws "for our own good", the open spaces and the quality of the air we have up here. We appreciate the lack of inconsiderate drivers and just plain crazy drivers we left behind, as well. We appreciate so much of what this area and the State, as well, has to offer........Thank you NH for welcoming us into your state! ![]() |

![]() We like not having to use the a/c all the time from now thru September and into October and being able to have the windows open with a nice breeze for most of that time period and we REALLY like the .... I guess you'd say "politeness" of the people up here. Our families still think we're crazy for moving up here, but I think they're starting to "get it" the more we talk about the differences..... Of course, there are also those who don't believe us, either, when we talk about the differences and think we're making it all up![]() |

Yeah I had done the same thing moving from NH to NC - left everything I know to a place I knew nothing about. I don't regret my decision on all fronts, but I do on some others. I so understand about running the A/C - we are about to fire ours up next month and it will stay on through October I am sure. I noticed here there are so many adults and kids that do not respect people or their property - and feel entitled to encroach because it's their right to live. Anyhow before I get on a tangent - enjoy - I will be jealous LOL |
