Looking for a lake rental come summer for someplace further south than Lake Winnipesaukee. We'll be needing to visit family in North Shore area so an area with a reasonable drive. I just don't know where about I should look as I only know Winnipesaukee as the big lake vacation area. Any suggestions?

This is just my opinion as I'm not really a lake fan.

If I were to be visiting someone in Mass and wanted to rent a place with a water view in a northern state, I would go looking for a salt water view in seacoast NH or southern ME.

Not really wanting to be in the Portsmouth, Hampton area. We will also need to make some stops in Nashua and Sunapee area and I don't wanna be driving all over the state every other day. Otherwise I would for sure do portsmouth

Newfound or Sunapee would be likely choices.

Squam/Little Squam as well. Lots of rental places in Holderness, Ashland, maybe Sandwich, or Center Harbor as well. Easy access to I93.

Ossipee is probably another one, but has that over the river and through the woods trip before you hit interstate.

How long are you planning to vacation on the lake? Many of the of the places that are usually available as weekly rentals have become longer-term rentals (4, 5 or 6 weeks) and there is very little waterfront available on the bigger lakes

Unless you're looking for a lake to go boating on (and you need a license to boat on NH waters), maybe consider one of the smaller lakes. Check out Waukewan Lake or Lake Winnisquam, either would be most convenient to 93. Sunapee may be doable as well.

You could also check some of the smaller lakes closer to 101 - Pawtuckaway Lake in Nottingham, Swain's Lake in Barrington. Or maybe Harvey Lake in Northwood. Good luck!

There are probably dozens and dozens of smaller lakes all over the state.

Pick a region and contact a real estate agent. Or look on C/raigslist or F/acebook.

Shouldn't that area properly be called the "east shore?" Its shoreline points east or northeast not north.
