live or visit?
ok....so is new hampshire a great place to just visit or is it really a great place to live?
you probably know that i live in texas and my wife will not agree to moving up there. we are coming up there for a vacation at the end of june.
we have a three year old son and i keep telling her that texas will have to dumb down education in the state to accomodate all the illegals living here. (45% hispanic 35% white as far as population in schools go). and from experience...i can tell you that most of the hispanic kids to care less about education.
what can i tell her to convince her that new hampshire is a great place to live as compared to just a great place to visit? please help me.

Do research on cost of living from TX to NH and the school systems comparing TX to NH. I did the same with FL and NH and the high school in FL has 1600 kids vs 650 in NH (better teacher:student ratio as well) and NH spends more $ per child than FL does in the school system. Just the beauty of NH and all the outdoor things you can do should be an attraction to her i think. Just make sure she has a GREAT time during your visit and don't push the issue of moving there too much. It will only make her not want to move even more.

thank you valerie and danielle. i think that could be the problem danielle. i am obsessed with it and talk about it all the time so it could be pushing her away. when we come up there we will mostly be on the coast at the wentworth, except for the time we will be driving and exploring. she loves the coast....so hopefully she will love the wentworth and the new hampshire coast. thanks again guys.

Play to her interests
My DH wanted to move so badly he could taste it. I was not opposed to New England - in fact, it was our agreed-upon retirement destination. What threw me was the the opportunity came along about 10-15 years too soon.
So he scouted it out and (unbeknown to me) gathered as much info on things he knew were important to me -- schools/education, child care, and as much as he could get on locally grown foods of all sorts, coop groceries, cute little new england towns, etc.
I still have reservations that this move will work as well as he thinks it will (which is NOT to say I don't think it will work...it's all a matter of degrees) but a) the fact that I could see/read about the abundance in NH of what is important to me and b) that he went to the effort to gather it - which showed me how badly he wanted to try this - helped to win me over.
ymmv - Jackie

I actually think it's both. It's definatly a beautiful place to visit which is evident by the amount of tourists it draws. It has just about anything you need.Beautiful mountains, clean lakes, and the seashore is very nice. The nice thing about N.H. is the 4 different seasons. There's always something to do. I beleive if someone doesent have the ability to embrace the colder weather and enjoy those month's it's probably a better place to visit than to live. I've tried the warmer climate and im moving back to N.H. It should be beautiful while your there.Enjoy your trip.

I agree. there's nothing like having 4 seasons and snow for the holidays. After 14 years in FL, i had enough with heat, the bugs, the traffic, etc. time to get back home. If you like to do things outdoors, there's always something to do year round even in the cold days of winter. Then again, there's nothing more than snuggling up with a blanket and hot cocoa in front of a fireplace indoors either. What's funny is i actually look forward to the very few 30 degree days we get in the winter time just to be able to make a cup of hot cocoa. I think to truly understand the way of life in NH, you have to live there and experience it first.

N.h. Take Me Away
New hampshire is an awsome place to live. i wish i never moved from there to new york, what a mistake that was. but we did it to take care of my mother inlaw after my father inlaw passed away. but now i'm ready to come back to new hampshire. i miss the freedom of no taxes and other stupid laws in this state. i can't wait to leave.

I wouldn't live anywhere else. One reason is the WATER!!!!! IMO the water tastes so much better here.
I was in the service when I was younger and was stationed in the south. I went to school in the midwest. I could not wait to get home to the hills of NH.
