The schools in the Monadnock region are falling apart! Badly.. Monadnock regional highschool is in danger of being closed down after this school year, and had some of the lowest test scores in NH.... Just look at the sentinel for the schools in the area.. You child might do well on their tests but the school can't pass inspection for years..
Despite the fact that 75 percent of the Monadnock district schools are now deemed in need of improvement for failing to meet state standards for adequate yearly progress, administrators see reason for optimism in this year's state test scores.
Last year, five of the district's eight schools were listed as in need of improvement, a designation for a school that fails to meet adequate yearly progress on state examinations for two years in a row. This year, a sixth school - Gilsum Elementary School - joined the pack, while only Emerson and Sullivan elementary schools buck the trend.

Do you have a source for what you posted above?
I actually did what you suggested and came up with this:
Denied:1up! Software (broken link) Yes, things are not good for that district right now, but those in charge are thinking positively, which is important and a good sign that people care.
Tara...noone likes a negative nelly, which is probably why you are seeing these posts here. You are certainly entitled to your opionion, but there must be some positives about Keene as well? The college is there which brings in sporting events, plays, concerts etc. When school is in session I'm sure the events calendar is hopping.

Heck, there is even a Target there (which IMO is a positive)!

It's not that you can only post the good experiences but you in particular just post every negative thing you possibly can think of. Looking back at your very first posts you bash on how bad living in FL was and how great NH will be. (Here's a copy of one of the many bashings you did on FL where your basically praising the state of NH and bashing FL) Now on your recent posts, your praising how great FL is and how terrible NH is. This is why nobody wants to take your comments seriously and we find it unfair to bash NH so much for the perspective newcomers. Your just not happy wherever you live and us regular posters know the bad experiences you had and that's what you keep referring to but for people who are new to the NH forum, they don't know your story and for all they know, you could have lived in Keene for many years and may take your advice seriously.
"I'll take NE winter any day over the hot humid depressing scorching, buggy, muggy, sticky, old person infested, brushfire burdened, hurricane ridden, dead heat nasty nasty nasty summers of Florida.. Oh wait its summer all year round so umm I take Fla never. Lived there for 23 years.. NEVER EVER go back to SW Fla. I can always layer up but can only take so much off.
Its funny cause I see a lot of people talking about the grey days up north. But when you live in Fla year round esp the south part where cold fronts are more rare than northern you look foward to the grey days. It gest old seeing the sun day after day after day after day. No break, imagine an equal amount of grey days up north as we have sunny down here. Depressing isn't it? Thats how me and my husband feel. Just not beach babiesI guess."

And I was speaking from inexperience, had I KNOWN what depressing really was with the grey skies and snow etc etc. I wouldn't have written that.. Did I have a right to, probably not.. But it was how I felt at the time. HOWEVER now that I have experienced both climates, I now appreciate the summer weather, and the no snow. If you look at my new posts I previously apologized for writing those things, and now write both positive and negatives about Florida as it has both. Its like that old saying "You don't know what you've got till its gone" I now see what Fla is mostly a state of people escaping cold weather. I understand their logic of only going up in the summer and down here in the winter.. It makes sense and they've got the right idea.

That is the correct source. Yes Keene does have positives.. If you look at some of my earlier posts you will see I mentioned positives.. Suzet can attest that I wrote MANY positive to her about Keene. However I've mentioned about all the positives I can on Keene.. The town is only so big, yeah it has a Target.. thank god because the closest mall is an hour away. Christmas shopping would he Hell if they did have some variety cause most of the shops close at 5, and around the holidays! I've had dealings with the people of Keene as well as the gov't personally and its just crooked and backwards.. Yeah I know all politics are but this takes it to a whole new level. Perhaps its the small towns or whatever but when jobs start knocking on your door because you dont' answer your door then there are problems when they think its okay they can just go around and do that.. Anyone elses jobs knock on their door every time they don't answer their phones? People pitting you to try and talk trash about other people knowing they're gonna go back and tell them.. Thats small town workings for sure, that was going on when my husband lived in a small town in Maine too.... its just all too backwards for my liking and I think becasue of the close proximity of people in small towns, there is a need to know everything about everyone and when you're not willing to give it up there is a suspicion that goes with that like OHHH WHY don't they want us to know and WHAT are they hiding.. And it just make me sick..

This is just my own thought, but I think the person who started this topic is just wanting some pros and cons to the area they're considering. Regarding the bad experience Tara had in Keene, sometimes those things happen. It's too bad. I can understand both sides, where I live, I hate it. It's got potential but it's not for me, but that doesn't mean it's not for everybody. I've had only bad experiences in this area (not where I was raised btw) but others have had great experiences. So, there's really just pros and cons everywhere you go and some places work for some people and not for others.

and by your change to ONLY writing negative about NH you've decided that no matter what you thought about the rest of the time you spent in state, there is nothing good. riiiight. And you wonder why the people in town were unfriendly to you? riiiiight. So why can't you ever post any of the things you liked about Keene or NH in general as well as the negatives? People would be much less annoyed, I think, if there was a touch of balance.

You cannot argue with this rhetoric. Imagine these thoughts going through our head, from morning to night, it is exhausting, and it is self-suffering. (I have been there, I know.) Most people aren't even aware that they are doing it. Change can only come from inside ourselves. Eckhart has a quote, something to the effect of, 'The world cannot change until we change inside ourselves' .... something like that. I didn't understand this pattern in myself or in others until I read Eckhart Tolle's works. He has been blessed with a rare gift to explain the human condition.
Peace,
Leah
