Tell me about Nashua?
Spent an odd day in Nashua last weekend by the Pheasant Mall. Had to drop off my son to meet friends there so hubby and I hung out around downtown and grabbed a bite. Nothing but motorcycles whizzing by the whole time we were eating along with a parade of "interesting" people walking past us like....a guy with a large snake around his neck, a guy with two huge pitbulls and he was little, someone dressed as an Indian. I thought the circus was in town? So what's the story with Nashua...did I just hit it on an odd day?

Hi puffle - Although I now live in NH, the last time I was in Nashua was probably 15 years ago....what you described sounds more like Woodstock in NY....and that's a typical spring day "sight" there

Y M C A ...sing it with me! where was the construction guy...and the police officer?
Hey Puffle! What's so odd about it? Oh, so many little random thoughts going through my mind, LOL
Did you have a dream....maybe about Venice Beach, California...in the '70s...that's the way I remember it anyway.
Maybe the Pheasant Mall was giving out gift cards?
Now the motorcycles... Maybe a Bike Run to Ossipee for the Moving Wall? ...or just out for a ride on a nice day?

I've been doing a lot of research on Nashua lately and have heard mixed things. I've read that a lot of Bostoners trek up to that mall because of the tax-free shopping. So it might not have been representative of who actually lives there. My daughter will be off to college, so schools are of no importance to me, so Nashua may be just fine for us. The crime rate here in Indianapolis is much, much higher than Nashua. I don't really know where else I can be an hour from Boston and find reasonable housing. Some of the surrounding communities seem much higher in price than the city of Nashua.

That's pretty funny Puffle Downtown Nashua is pretty busy, and the areas immediately surrounding Main Street has a high number of multi-families homes, which may be part of the "interesting" characters that you saw. Since it's just gotten so nice and warm these last couple of weeks, everybody wants to be out and about it seems. We've notice LOTS of bikes (motorcycles) the last week or so--even my DH is thinking of getting one (it's been years!!) because his classic muscle is a GAS HOG!! Like so many other cities, the inner core of the city is the more "interesting" and the outskirts are the better neighborhoods. If you were to drive just a little further up Main Street until it changes to Concord Street, you'd see some beautiful tree-lined streets, and very nice Victorian style homes. Nashua does offer something for everybody... and I've seen an interesting mind-set change this last year or so. The suburbs aren't quite as attractive as they once were, and people are wanting to live nearer to where they can eat, shop, etc. It will be an interesting change to watch!!

MM, Nashua might have some of what you are looking for, it really depends on what you're looking for. There is a HUGE mix of neighborhoods in Nashua--everything from 15-20 lot subdivisions on tiny little manicured lots, neighborhoods of single family homes that were built in the 50's/60's (IMO those are the most interesting neighborhoods!) areas with multi-family/rentals, tree-lined streets with gracious old Victorians, and condo communities. And if you want to be convenient to shopping, you'll find it all along the DW Highway (on the Tyngsborough MA border) and all along Amherst Street/Rte 101A up to and into Amherst. Lots of variation in one city.....

I have lived in the area for quite some time and have lived on Amherst St. for a few years as well. The motorcycles I can understand. As soon as warm weather hits the motorcycles come out. There really is a big community for that around here. You'll see white collar people at the end of the day heading home on their motorcycles.
The other stuff I'm not so sure about - Indian, snake, pitbulls. That doesn't seem like a 'normal' occurance. Perhaps the Circus WAS in town! I've never seen any of those things and I have lived and worked in the area for 20 years. Sounds like you hit Main Street on an interesting day!

I've spent some time there (both mall and downtown) and have never seen anything like that...it definitely seems more racially diverse than many parts of NH, but not compared to most of the US. Sounds like you just got lucky!

It seems to me there's a perfectly logical explanation. If you put the snake on a leash, it would take too long to go for a walk.
