If fish & game had been called, the entire situation would have ended differently and no doubt, more positively.

I don't think we'll have to call anyone - the only time we would is if we felt threatened. So far, when Yogi's been around during the day, he just has wandered from the road up the yard and into the forest. Other than that, just the weird bit with the tree stump and the rock, which was evidently done while we were all asleep and it didn't even disturb the dog!
I think I remember that incident in the lakes region and I thought that was a shame.
Hubby and I are both in agreement that if we feel the bear is becoming a nuisance or if we feel threatened by it, then we would call fish and game. The dumpster problem seems to be taken care of, so hopefully once it realizes the "free meal" down the street is gone, he/she will go back to foraging in the woods.
We do make noise when we take the dog out and so far haven't encountered it when we're outside. Now is the time of year we get a lot of people wandering around in the woods behind the house as well - a lot of hikers, so maybe with more human activity in the area, Yogi will feel less comfortable venturing forth.
