I had to share this with all the "NH people" who will die laughing with me...
There is a town down here in NC that is a pretty nice and rapidly expanding town - I actually love it.
Well guess there is a neighbor, Ms Houston, who wants "conformity" - with of all things COLORS OF HOUSES.
Bright houses have some Cary residents seeing red :: WRAL.com
We have all been saying she should take a trip to New England to see all the colors, she'd have a coniption!
So what color is YOUR house?

Reason: Oh and this can be for the non-NH people too - especially our COLORFUL Countrylv and our purple people hehehe

ROTFL thank you for sharing NC2NHMOM!! Reminds me of when we lived in St. Louis MO, and the subdivision had protective covenants in place that spelled out the 3 "acceptable" (non)colors: white, tan, silver. You were, however, allowed to chose a REAL color for your shutters & door (had to match unless your door was wood-grain) The thought of anyone telling people what could and couldn't be done with their house didn't sit well with us, being New Englanders and all FWIW, my kids and husband say that our house is pink, however, I refer to it as "light coral". (we plan to paint or side it grey, eventually...) The house across the street from me is blue... up the street is red... maybe while I"m out and about today I'll shoot some colorful house pictures

There are some already screaming in the local posts about it - where's the HOA!! Honestly, I can't believe anyone would complain to an "HOA" about a color of a house -- but honestly I think everyone in NC believes that everyone else lives in a subdivision and is run/regulated by the HOA.
ok not getting started on the HOA thingy.
Valerie, now "light coral" sounds to me like how I told my husband his underwear wasn't "purple" it was a deep maroon LMAO. We woman are probably the reason Crayola had to rename all their colors Oh please take some pictures of some pretty colors - it's too long before the colors of fall.

Okay, now I can't wait to move out there! We've got so many cookie cutter houses here, and I'm looking forward to some variety!

there are so many villages that consider themselves historical and will not allow any homes to be painted anything but white with black trim.
historical societies can tell you what you can do with home decorating right down to what flowers you can plant in your gardens.
I have seen some beautiful victorian homes painted in wonderful colors when you get out of historical districts.
My house is boring white with gray.

How about sea foam green clapboard, eggplant shutters, and off white trim. That's my house. It actually came out pretty good, but I had my doubts when my wife chose the colors.

My house in beige, with tan shutters. Maybe boring, but I think it looks nice. When we first moved in, almost 20 years ago, it was painted a bad green (and green is my favorite color. . .). We had it painted as quickly as we could, a nice beigy-little-tiny-bit-pinkish color. Well, everyone called it "the pink house". So, the next time we had it painted, a year ago, I chose a definite-no-pink-about-it beige color. Just a week ago, when I was walking my dog, I stopped to talk to someone I hadn't talked to before, and she asked where I lived. I pointed to my house. She said, "Oh, the pink house!" I said, no! It hasn't been "pink" in over a year!" Maybe we will always be thought of as "the pink house".
However, we live in a city where we have many people from "the islands." People from the Islands LOVE bright colors. We have houses in our neighborhood that are shocking bright. Two houses down from us, the people painted their house orange. They painted the shutters lime green and fuschia. I am not kidding. When they were initially painting, my daughter (again, walking our dog) came back and said, "Mom, the new neighbors are painting their house orange." I said, "No, that has to be a primer. Don't be silly." Well. . . the orange wasn't even the worst part.
Anyway, those people (after living in their orange house for about 6-7 years) sold to new people about 3 months ago. The first thing those new people did was paint their house. . . light tan. We did get used to the orange house, and it did fade a little in the years that past. On the positive side, it was always easy to tell people where we lived: "Two houses down from the orange house!" Everyone knew exactly where we were talking about.

Oh, I can believe it. In general I think house colors are perfectly fine, but I would have been peeved if I lived in an old friend's neighborhood - the large house on the corner was screaming purple! And no, you couldn't even call it eggplant it was way too vivid.
but people complain about the most amazing things: down here neighbors will sometimes take a ruler and measure the height of your lawn if they think you haven't been mowing enough. In New Ipswich people are likely still all a-flutter over the rather... noticeable... electronic sign a company has in the middle of town (there had been no regulations forbiding it). So, ya just never know what's gonna put people's knickers in a twist.
