uh.... did you read the entries in this thread just above your post? They're all talking about cable internet and fios! Ok, none of them have mentioned cost, but I'm sure you can find that out by contacting the companies named: verizon and comcast.
Personally, I had comcast cable TV here in MD many years ago and they were the pits. I wouldn't trust them to get my name right on a mailer, let alone trust them to run my internet. But, if you want cable internet, you'll probably have to check with comcast.
If you read the earlier posts on this thread, you'll see that some places have access to various broadbands and some don't.

YES, Comc & Veriz BOTH in Southern NH.
Yes, Both companies, Comcast & Verizon have what you're looking for in southern New Hampshire. I have Verizon's DSL and live on the seacoast. I couldn't be any more happier with it. I know FIOS is in my town and it has been for a few months evidently? I wasn't keeping track of it. BUT I'm not going with it just yet. I'm waiting to see what happens over the next year with Verizon's sell off plan. They sold off the northern New England cable lines to FAIRPOINT COMMUNICATIONS, so that means New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont. It's a wait and see with me while this new "game plan" goes on. It's going to take another year for all of us up here to see the difference, IF there IS any type of change that is AND hopefully it's for the better. Until then I'm sticking with my faithful, fast, awesome DSL for now. At least we're lucky to have THAT. It's SO reliable, as a previous poster mentioned here? Verizon's only goes down when there's power outages and that's hardly ever, where we live. It's been very very good for the last few years since DSL FINALLY came on board to this neck of the woods for all of us!
I can't speak for Comcast customers, I know there's a lot of them though. I just know what I hear from some of my neighbors all the time and it's not pretty! They seem to have more issues with their service than us, that much I can tell you.

You could also contact the Chamber of Commerce or Town Hall in wherever it is you are relocating - that's what we did before we moved. They told us what was available in the area at the time and we then contacted the company for pricing. If you are working with a realtor for your move, they should also be able to tell you what's available in your new area.

Need some info
Do the towns of Bethlehem, Whitefield, or Lancaster have DSL or high speed internet? I know that Littleton does but I am not sure about those smaller towns north of the notch. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm 98% sure Bethlehem has high speed, less sure about Whitefield, (we have friend in both places and neither has mentioned anything about just having dial-up) but I believe so, and I *think* nhyrnut said he had it in Lancaster.

Yeah, that's why I asked. I didn't see any mention of high speed cable availability in Manchester. Plus I didn't feel like reading through all that at the time.

I have Comcast now and it is a joke. I hate it because it is so expensive and they rip you off, especially on cable. They start out at an OK price, but then they gradually jack it up to insane levels. I actually think I'm still paying for MLB extra innings when I don't even have it. . I'm paying $80 a month just for expanded basic cable, no HBO or nothin. It started out as $30 a month with everything, including HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, etc. And I can't get direct TV, because they don't allow dishes where I live. Comcast is the only thing they have for cable internet. It's a damn monopoly over here in PA. Do you guys have any more Cable Internet providers. What exactly is FIOS? I thought you guys would have AOL Time Warner but I guess not. I was happy with them when I had it. But Comcast is ripping me off. I'm not too fond of Verizon either.
My whole Comcast bill is like $120 a month. And their customer service sucks too!

Here's info from the Lane Memorial Library in Hampton...Internet Providers in Hampton, NH:
The names, numbers, and availability of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are constantly changing. The choices of companies and connection options can boggle the mind of even the most technologically savvy computer user. Listed below is an assortment of local and national companies that provide Internet access in Hampton. Many of these are listed in the local yellow pages under "Internet Services", so that is always a good place to check. Another online list is available at portsmouthnh.com. To choose an ISP click on the links below and compare what each company has to offer. Speak with your friends and neighbors about what they use. But remember, just like with long-distance telephone service, the choice will not be an easy one.
Most of the listings below are for dial-up modem access via your telephone line, although more and more high-speed access is becoming available in Hampton. Many of the companies below offer home DSL service to some areas, but local availability varies and may only exist within a few miles of our local relay station on Winnacunnet Road (if it exists at all). Check with each of these companies frequently if you are interested in home DSL.
Hampton-area Internet Providers
Company Name and Website Business Phone
Bayring Communications 1-603-766-1000
Comcast Broadband Cable Internet 1-888-633-4266
Earthlink 1-800-511-2041
Easy Web Solutions 1-603-659-3353
G4 Communications 1-888-840-4487
Granite State Internet (GSINET) 1-877-447-4638
MV Communications 1-800-682-6387
The PipeLine.net 1-603-474-0180
TTLC Internet 1-877-677-8852
Verizon DSL 1-877-483-5898
World Path Internet Services 1-866-859-9650
Some people also take advantage of the many "free" Internet access accounts available nationally. They will all require you to run some kind of advertising on your computer screen, but for many this is worth the sacrifice to get free Internet access. Check out the following links to study all of your available options.
Epinions guide to free ISPs
A guide to free Internet access from about.com
A guide and comparative list from DailyeDeals.com
National Online Services
Company Name Business Phone
America Online (AOL) n/a
Compuserve 1-800-848-8990
Prodigy 1-800-213-0992
The largest resource for finding a service provider is known as The List. It covers small local operators as well as national & regional companies. It is searchable by name as well as geography. Here's their directory listing for companies providing access in the 603 area code. The list of services available in NH alone is staggeringly long
GOOD LUCK!

great post citygirl!
has anyone used any of those providers? the few that have residential offerings in my area have similar prices to comcast cable internet, but if it's more reliable then it would be excellent.

ah! You didn't say Manchester. Ok, well I googled on it and according to <http://www.onelasvegas.com/wireless/New_Hampshire_Broadband_Internet.html> Manchester has Verizon DSL, and at least some places will have FIOS (that's fiber-optic service) - but again, that's a Verizon product.

Yup, all why I dumped Comcast a numer of years ago and switched to Dish Satellite for my TV. They have a lock on a lot of the counties here in MD for cable as well. But yes, it looks like Time-Warner is in NH, at least in some places - there was an earlier message in the thread about them. I believe they are calling their internet cable 'RoadRunner'.
WindChime is right: you'll get your best info on Manchester specific options if you contact their Chamber of Commerce.
oh, just an aside about not being allowed a satellite dish... if ANY community in any state tries to tell you that they won't allow it, they are in violation of FCC regulations and they are trying to bully you. You may just have to point it out to them, though. Dishes are very small now, not the backyard monsters they were.
I'm hoping for Dish or Direct satellite in So-NH when I move up. It would be nice if FIOS is in the central/western area as well. I've got a few years - maybe it will spread more.
