Does Lancaster or Whitefield have reliable DSL Internet because the DSL office is right near the town itself? I think it is great that quite a few of the much smaller towns have high speed internet now

I just read online something today with this Fairpoint Communications. They went bankrupt so many times, they can't keep up with any of it and if they screw up any more it's over. I'm thinking now that that's why Morgan Stanley is probably watching them like a hawk with this whole merger going on.
I don't trust ANY of this so called merger ONE inch. We're all going to be watching "this one's" fireworks go off before we know it...

how Japan outclassed the United States
Japan's Warp-Speed Ride to Internet Future

Japan's Warp-Speed Ride to Internet Future
Japan's Warp-Speed Ride to Internet Future - washingtonpost.com
It's astounding to see an article like this from the politician-friendly Wash. Post, but read it and weep.
"Broadband service [in Japan] is eight to 30 times as fast as in the United States -- and considerably cheaper. Japan has the world's fastest Internet connections, delivering more data at a lower cost than anywhere else"
"Yet the story of how Japan outclassed the United States in the provision of better, cheaper Internet service suggests that forceful government regulation can pay substantial dividends."
They just tranlated our laws into Japanese, but unlike our Fickle Commission of Corruption (aka FCC), enforced them.

CABLE WAS MY ONLY ALTERNATIVE for phone
For those that complain about Comcast, BEWARE! Verizon has been taken over by "far-from adequate" (really, "Far-point")customer service.its impossible to actually to talk to a person unless you call the 'upgrade your service number'.they delivered the most exasperating cusomer service experience I've ever experienced!voice recognition that doesn't work. I
got larygitis screaming into the phone.
they began charging me 40% more than Verizon without any sort of notice that changes were coming. Also i wasn't the only person to get their phone shut off because charges got out of hand.
i've dumped "Far-point" in favor of the cable company, for phone, internet and tv, all in favor more reasonable (sane)costs.
With regards to comcast service, at least they maintain an office where I can drive 6-7 miles and bend the ear of an actual person with complaints, should they arise.

If you live in a rural area in NH be prepared for a VERY VERY VERY long wait for 10 years old technology,... DSL or cable... and just plain forget about fiber, never going to happen here.
I live 18, 003' from my local C/O (verizon, Spofford NH) and over the past 3.5 years have been told at least 10 differing wire distances all of which are complete and udder BS. No one is willing to go the extra mile to provide. There is no cable on my side of town and I live in a fairly populated area (for Chesterfield.)./wine

I get Fairpoint/Verizon in W.Chesterfield. Had to fight with Verizon like crazy when I tried to get on. Kept telling me I was too far from the switching station, oh yeah, right, then why did my next door neighbor have it and the neighbors further down the road? I can see their house from mine and the next argument was that the lines outside weren't copper???? They sure weren't fiber optics. Come to find out, there weren't enough available spaces/ports or equipment in the local switching station, but I finally got it. The only other option I have is going through my DirecTV, but I'm not paying those rates.

We rented in Merrimack on the Nashua border. No problem getting a cable modem and two different speeds were available.
We're in Hollis now (which has Charter Cable) and have great cable modem service as well.
