Default Littleton Summerfest this weekend

I guess it technically starts tomorrow, but there's nothing listed for Wednesday or Thursday Saturday is the big day! If anyone is in the area or even not in the area but looking for something to do, here's Saturday's schedule...

Last year we "hit" the pancake breakfast (love those church breakfasts!) and the Taste of the North Country...<burp!>...oh excuse me! And of course the parade....I don't remember a block party last year or the year before, so I think that's new....the fireworks we were able to watch from our front porch - we're high enough above the town that we could see and hear them clearly!

03SATURDAY

Sounds like fun to me Dare. Food is always fun! I wonder if you will get any bikers up there who are here for mc week. Are you hitting the pancake breakfast this year?

Hopefully the weather will get better-it is nasty out right now

Hi Nicole - We always have a lot of bikers up here, mc week or not - when we lived in the farmhouse we were right on Rt. 135 and you could hear them coming up a mile away - usually at least 5-10 riding together and all on Harleys

Yep, we're hitting the pancake breakfast - that church always has good food, whether it's a breakfast or a dinner!

Supposedly it's going to be isolated t-storms, high of 75 on Saturday....

Smile Report on Summerfest 3008

For anyone who's interested, here's my report on today's festivities....at least so far

We didn't make it to the breakfast this morning - hubby woke up hungry around 3 a.m. and woke me up to share in some French toast - after we finished our "early breakfast" we never got up until after 9 a.m. and the church breakfast ended at 10 a.m.

By 11 or so, we were human enough to venture out. We went to the National Guard Amory for the Arts and Crafts fair - So many talented people! There was one gal who made jewelry from various stones she found, pieces of glass, shells, etc....beautiful pieces. Another woman was there who did paintings - she had one of the river that runs through town from the perspective of the senior center - the river, the gristmill, the covered bridge...very talented. A man was selling various things he had made from wood - his pepper mills were amazing...he also made wooden pens that could be refilled with Cross pen refills, cribbage boards, etc. A lady was there who did pottery and her husband made jewelry with his hand-made glass....a couple who did stained glass....absolutely amazing (I think I said that already, but the stuff was magnificent)! The painter is originally from Florida - she's been up here 3 years and loves it - she said winter did take some getting used to, but she wouldn't go back to Florida if you paid her

From there we went to sample the "Taste of the North Country" - Many places were represented. Apthorp Commons Cafe and Bakery (which had free coffee), Miller's Bakery and Cafe, Baliwicks, Alburrito's, Topic of the Town, Flora Latte (a full service florist plus cafe), Golden Palace, among others. John from Alburrito's had two outrageously delicious foods and the Flora Latte had this combo of spinach/goat cheese/andsomethingelse that was equally outrageously delicious. Hubby got some eclairs from Miller's (I had only a little taste of one, but it was fabulous as well).

We had some time to kill before the parade and spent it people watching. If I didn't know any better, I'd have sworn Littleton was hosting a "Biker Week" - there were TONS of bikers in town and going through town - some beautiful bikes! There were license plates from Texas, North and South Carolina, NY, Michigan, Wisconsin, California and of course VT and NH

The parade got a late start, but I got pictures for anyone who wants to see them. We had 2 Mounted policemen from Manchester, NH and the radio kept talking about the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who would be here...well there were 2 of them, but they didn't have their horses Miss New Hampshire was here as well as a bunch of politicians. I think I got the biggest kick out of "Leapin' Lena" - There was at least one town selectman in the car and he didn't look any too happy when Lena started Leapin'

Tonight is the block party with The NH Rock Bottom Band - New Hampshire Country Music Association Award Winner. We're planning to do down around 8 or 8:30 for a bit and then stay and watch the fireworks at 9:30.

Oh yeah - in the "movie" (figured it was easier to put the parade pics in that way instead of separately) they guys in red behind the Grafton County Sheriff's car is NH Fish & Game, I believe, NOT the Mounties!

Hiya Captjob - We had a really good time. I love to people-watch and had a ball just watching and talking to various people. It rained a bit before the parade, but then stopped and hopefully won't rain on tonight's festivities.

I remember, ....now..., that you said you had gone to Alburrito's - I wish I had remembered it when we were talking to John - I would have asked him if he remembered a guy from California stopping in one night!

Hi Dare,

Barbara and I took a spur of the moment trip to Littleton today. We went to the Arts and Craft Fair at about 11 also. There are a lot of talented people there. We were there while two bus loads of people pulled up from out of state. We went over to the Moore Dam Reservation on the Vt. side on Powers Farm Rd. We had packed a picnic , it was such a beautiful day. There were a lot of boats on the lake. I did notice the number of bikes on the roads around the area. Colebrook had a blessing of the bikes at the Catholic shrine and various other events around town this weekend, lots of bikes.OOOOHHH back in the day

Colebrook - I wish I'd know you and Barbara were coming! When we got there, there was one bus still there. I love the Moore Dam Reservoir - we go there frequently on nice days - very relaxing and enjoyable - there's a section where you can take your dog for a swim even! <g>

I wonder if the blessing of the bikes had anything to do with so many bikers coming through town - we have quite a few on a regular basis, but today there seemed to be more than usual.....

P.S. - Did you see the peppermills and pens that Ray made? I thought they were truly amazing!

It was kinda weird - I picked up a bunch of business cards from a lot of the folks there and only 1 has a website....at all the crafts fairs in NY EVERYBODY had a website <g>

We did some more wandering around last night and ended the evening with the fireworks display - I didn't time them exactly but I think they were about 30 mins long......I took 3 movies of them with my digital camera and each one was anywhere from 9-11 minutes, so there were quite a few.

It was a good night for them - the rain had stopped and the skies were pretty clear - I had to actually wear a sweater, though to be warm enough!

Sorry Captjob and Suzet - I just had to throw that in here
