Londonderry High School's Marching Lancers enroute to China!
Well, they're off! All 3 groups of our Marching Lancers have departed New Hampshire, and are now on their journey to Beijing, China. The logistics are amazing--254 students, plus their uniforms, instruments & equipment, along with dozens of chaperones & parent "followers" departed the high school parking lot at 3:30 PM yesterday, midnight today and 6:30 AM today. The first airplane has already departed, the 2nd may well be off the ground at this time (schedule to takeoff at 10:30 AM) and the 3rd will be departing later this afternoon. As a parent of one of the travelers, I'm alternating between excitement and nervousness, so I can just imagine how these high school students feel.
We know that they'll do a fantastic job representing the town of Londonderry, the state of New Hampshire and the United States of America!

I was reading about Londonderry's band leaving today. What a great opportunity for these band members and their parents! Congratulation's to all the members and hope the trip will be one for the ages.
Congrads Valerie. What an amazing adventure for your daughter. I am sure she will have a wonderful time and come back to you safely. Like Dare said, if you ever need to talk while she is gone, just let us know, we are here for you. I know if it were my daughter, I would be feeling just what you are. I'd miss her greatly, but be very happy for her.
How wonderful, Val, what an awesome opportunity for your daughter and the whole band! On top of the excitement and nervousness you must be very very proud!
I saw that on the news.......how cool! It's a trip they will remember always. Who gets to go to China everyday? It'll really shape them....they will get a different world view. We Americans have a tendency to walk around with blinders.
A good friend of mine just got back from China after competing in the Paralympics. He was part of a sailing team and finished 8th. He was blown away with the cultural differences.

Just thought I would update that one poor Lancer had to come home after going all the way to Hong Kong... they lost their passport & visa, and so were unable to complete the trip. Very sad for that student but as long as they arrive home safely, that's what really counts...
Speaking of summer as in another current thread, the temp in Beijing right now (12:19 pm there) is 87 degrees. The Lancers will be marching in full uniforms (designed to keep the kids warm on those chilly October Friday-night football games) doing their field show, among others. This after the 3rd group (the one my daughter is in) landed in Beijing less than 12 hours ago!!! It's sure not your average summer vacation...
Yep, Definitely not your average summer vacation!! Sounds like quite an experience. Hope your daughter has a great time! So sad that a student had to return home.
