Southern Manchester Neighborhoods Cilley Road/Lincoln St/Shasta/Howe St.
Hi Everyone,
I'm not from Manchester so I don't know the area that well. I've heard people say buy only in the Northside of the city and others say just avoid central Manchester and that the South side is fine.
I'm looking to purchase a home in the South side of the city and was wondering if anyone there could tell me what the neighborhoods are really like? Realtors never want to tell you anything! They say call the police and the police never answer these type of voicemails.
I'm looking at a couple of homes just north of Cilley Road (1 block north)
Around the streets of Cilley Road/Lincoln St/Shasta/Howe St./Dix Street.
Can anyone share any input on this general area?

I bought a house in Manchester and I called the Manchester police and you don't need to leave a voicemail...they have a real live person on the other end of the phone and they answered my question when I asked about the neighborhood ..so go ahead and give it a try. From my experience, I think the areas you describe are good...not the best, but I definitely think it would be okay. Best thing to do is drive around the neighborhood in the evenings, and then on a Friday or Saturday night to see what goes on at those times. You will see if the neighbors are noisy, etc............ Good luck.

Hi Angela,
Thanks for the info. I will definately call them back. What general area are you in and how do you feel about the crime and safety of your neighborhood?

my sister lives on Cilley road and it's a busy road, but a fine area. HS students go to Memorial.
My grandmother used to live on Dix St., after she sold the farm. She had a nice little place with a decent back yard big enough for a garden.
You are IN the city at that point. Valley St. seems to be the cutoff for the center city mark.
My sister on Cilley Road says she can see the Manchester fireworks from her house. Manchester does the fireworks from the Bridge St. bridge over the Merrimack River.

I live on Silver Street in one of the old mills in the area. Definitely true about Valley street being the cutoff and realistically, I probably wouldn't go any farther than silver. There's some really nice neighborhoods in that area with cute houses. Right near South Willow while being able to avoid it if you want. If you're not moving to the north end, it's certainly where I'd go!

...for some reason I didn't get back to this thread. I am sort of in the North East area, about 10 blocks from the central downtown area. Again, not a great part of town, but not horrible either. We have been here for almost 6 years....it is safe, and we have never had any problems. We are waiting patiently for the housing market to turn around and do plan on moving.....mostly because I want a bigger yard, more privacy and better schools. I hope your search for a house went well/is going well!!
