Default Bondcliff Hike

I wasn't sure whether to include these in the picture thread or start a new one. I just figured I'd start a new thread. If someone wants to move it to the picture thread that's fine

Here they are, the results of our 20 mile backcountry hike in the heart of the Whites. The weather was perfect and the views were amazing. The only man-made structures visible from the summits were the ski runs at Loon and the summit buildings on Mt. Washington. FAR and AWAY THE best hike in the Whites.

Pemigewasset river, starting out

a loooong ways up, and we'd been hiking for almost 10 miles

First good view looking south

Mt. Washington....you can see the smoke from the cog to the left of the summit

Thanks everyone, we had a great time. Even the pictures don't really do the views justice. You lose so much perspective and depth (and drop ) in the pictures.

As for the trail itself, there are two ways you reach the cliffs. One is an in and out hike from Lincoln woods trail (off the Kanc near 93) to the wilderness trail, to Bondcliff trail and to the summits....... or you can park two cars and do a traverse from either Zealand road or twinway and come out lincoln woods.

However you do it, it is just over 20 miles with close to 3 thousand feet of elevation gain. It's far from a beginner hike and would take even a good hiker about 12 hours to do it in a day. The elevation gain is pretty gradual though compared to hiking the presidentials. We did it in two days and camped out 6-7 miles from the trailhead in the backcountry (200 ft from the trail and any river) after summiting. There is an actual established campground on Mt. Guyot though that is popular. Just keep in mind you are in bear country (stash food appropriately) and you won't want to carry enough water for the whole trail (water = heavy) so a filter is a plus to drink from the brooks. You'll easily use 4+ liters for this hike.
