I am leaning towards Franklin; have never been there but for some reason am really drawn there. I work as a medical office manager/administrator and understand there is a hospital close to ther. After looking on craigslist i see downtown lofts being refurbished and wonder if it is being revitalized. I live in a small town now and am looking for more of the same. My girls are in college but I like living in an area that has good schools. It says something about the community. I enjoy volunteering with community theatre. I miss seeing the mountains but am not really a hiker. I hate humidity and when I leave Florida hope to be rid of it.
Questions -
What are the seasons like?
Humidity levels in the summer?
Rental rates for the lofts downtown are great - 1 or 2 bedrooms?
What are the utilities like?
What is the job situation like in the medical admin or billing?
Thanks for all the help in advance!

Hi!!! You might want to post this as a new question so it doesn't get lost in this particular thread. I know you can find alot of these answers in other threads also. I have not moved there yet, but have done some research and I know there are may threads that will answer most of your questions. They are a wonderful bunch over here and will help with whatever they can.
These two will help with the weather questions and you can search for anything else you would like to by using the search button at the top right hand corner of the forum. I hope this helps.

Helping the move
Soounds like your husband is recruiting people, you really have listed areas of New Hampshire that are so different form each other. Do you wants snobs, Nashua, Londonderry,, Rednecks Franklin, middle professional, Concord, Hard workers / Snobs The Lakes region.
Your housing prices could be 60,000 to 600,000, it's honestly sectioned to different regions and lifestyles

My wife and I have been looking (mostly online, but some in person as well) at retiring in the Keene area. I think it's a great area - good schools, good shopping, a really neat main street with lots of independent shops & few chains, wonderful scenery ... and plenty of houses for sale or rent.
The one drawback to the area - and other areas in NH - that caught my eye is the property tax. Since NH doesn't have a sales tax or a state income tax, they have to make it up somehow, and the state/county/locality real estate tax bite can hurt. We're looking to downsize, and buying a home in the Keene area for approx. $100K less than the house we're in now will mean a real estate tax bill at least twice what we're paying now.
That said, no matter where you move, the tax man will find you! And yes, despite the property tax rate, we still have Keene high on our list.

Anyone got ideas on moving into the Lebanon area? I'm relocating there in about {{checking calendar}} three and a half weeks, and so far the month of research and calling I've done around hasn't helped. I'm moving from TX, so I'll be bringing tamales and enchiladas along with the beer... though it'll take brave souls to lug my kitties into a new apt. Any thoughts?

Dont move to Franklin
For Gods sake have you read my entry, DONT Move to Franklin, people in New Hampshire, refer to it as SKANKLIN. If your in the medical field and get a job at the Hospital it pays well. The town is made up of good old boys that dont now that the world doesnt revolve around them. It's major clicky, if your not born or should I say inbread there. Your an outsider. It doesnt use common sense.
After getting involved on the school board, PTO and fundraisers, I one day woke up. I bought my first house there back in 92 for 70,000. The houses are well made. Please LOOK SOMEWHERE else
