Neighboring towns to Manchester?
Hi!
I'm seriously considering moving to NH from central PA to take a job in Manchester. What are some of the nicest neighboring towns/cities within a 10-12 minute commute? Thank you in advance!

I used to live in Bedford, which borders Manchester to the west. Nice place with friendly people and a small town atmosphere.

Hey Video Monkey, welcome to the NH forum!
If you're looking for good proximity to Manchester, 2 of the nicest towns you will find are Bedford and Londonderry. Both of these towns are highly regarded, have excellent school systems, and (unfortunately) high taxes to pay for these good schools.
Depending on what part of Manchester you're considering taking the job, one or the other of these towns might better work for you. Although both of these towns border Manchester, it takes about 20 minutes to get from Londonderry (south of Manchester) to Bedford (west of Manchester) via highway.
What are some of your other considerations? Schools? Rec programs? Social activities? Ask all your questions here, there's a great group who will be jumping in to answer in the morning - not all are insomniacs like me

I live in Candia which is a great small town about 10 minutes from the Mall of New Hampshire in Manchester. I really like the school system (my son is going into 4th grade), the people are super nice, great neighborhoods. There isn't a single "bad section" in town!
It's a wonderful "out of the way" town if you like small town living, but also only 10 minutes from all the shopping centers/malls in Manchester.
.....that's just my 2 cents! : )
Have a great day.

If you consider towns west of Manchester, try Goffstown, Dunbarton or New Boston. These town may be just a bit further than 10 to 12 minutes but, only minutes more. These towns usually will have a more country atmosphere then towns east of the Merrimack River.

Hi all!
Thanks for the replies! I probably should've given a few more details. I'm a single guy in my early 30's looking to move to Manchester to take a job at WMUR (I'm a videographer/editor/graphics designer), I haven't actually GOTTEN the job yet, mind you, this is an immediate future goal of mine. I've heard nothing but good things about NH (and WMUR & their parent company Hearst Argyle) and think it would be a good fit for me. I'm a native upstate New Yorker, so cold winters don't scare me (and my favorite season is Fall)! I still haven't settled down yet, per se, so I would be planning on renting. Hope this gives you a better idea of my situation. Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification Single Guy, 30's, loves winter, WMUR.....
Manchester itself, or maybe Hooksett, just to the north of Manchester. Goffstown would probably work, possibly Nashua, or even Merrimack. Check out maps.google.com to see the proximity of these towns to Manchester-all pretty convenient. Plenty of rental options in these places as well, and I would think a condo rental might work well. All of these towns have great highway access for trips to the seacoast, lakes region, white mountains, Boston, etc. Glad you came back with more details for us

No problem! Actually...I love FALL best of all (something about the brisk air, leaves crunching beneath your feet, etc.) ! Thanks for the insights! Of all the areas you mentioned, which one(s) are the safest (i.e. least amount of crime), yet have the most character? I'm kind of an artistic guy, y'know?
