Haven't you heard the Travis Tritt song - here's a QUARTER call someone who cares (emphasis on the quarter not the name of the song LOL). I think a dime went out a long time ago - although NH had it as a dime for the longest time - I think until the payphone was phased out. I think you can still find them at the malls and airports (or not LOL)

The 24 hour rep jail happens to me everyday!!! I frequent many different forums on here, so I don't get the "spread the reps" too often, but I litterally end up in rep jail everyday!!!
All you can do is wait it out....

OK found a few different ways to explain this - so combined all the previous answers into one...let's see if this helps you.

Reputation is normal. Everyone here starts with one block and at 10 reputation. You gain reputation by people rating your posts positively.

Some people have very high reputation because people enjoy reading what they have to say. Others have high reputation because they post very useful things. And others have high reputation because they've been here awhile!

If you want to check what you have gained reputation for just click on the top "My Settings" and the first page it takes you to you can see all the reputation you've gained!

Here's a little more, you may notice the + Rate this post positively, well that shows up as "Quick reputation" when you take a look at the first page of your "My settings" however in the corner of each post there is a scale. This allows you to leave a comment.

Rep power is based on a formula that takes many factors into account. User's registration date, reputation, and the number of posts are all used. BTW, I just tweaked it a bit, so some may have a bit lower rep power from now on.

In a 24 hour period: you can give out at most 15 reps to others.

Same person: you must give reps to 20 people before you can hit the same person again.

Thanks NH2NCMom...I'm kinda new here and I FINALLY understand the rep thing. I frequent a few forums other than CD. This - by far - has the nicest bunch of people. Probably because you can't smite anyone, people offer only the nicest comments & give you rep, and the folks here don't seem to take the arguing bait that a few "bad apples" dangle.

I look forward to getting to know y'all more. Just wish I had more time to sit in front of the computer for fun vs work!

You're welcome - trust me I asked a bunch of questions when I joined a few months back...now I'm hooked on C-D too. I have little time - and it's actually harder when you work from home to leave CD or vice versa or other days

My daughter always lectures me every time she sees me on a forum...how I shouldn't go to "chat rooms," etc. Funny, my teenager giving me online safety advice.
